Anyhoo, that video is from MC 1.8, which will be released, some time soon, perhaps later.
As I've told you, people, PAX is the show where they shall "launch" the 1.8, read the acclaim, and if it comes in good, they shall soon give the 1.8 update for the common players.
Surely, all the CFUK SMP players will remember that all great SSP updates will most likely break all SMP servers...
This thread is 98% TheMZL talking to himself...
Hmm, I want to wait til the vid is in better quality. Hopefully it won't stay at 360P.
I watched the first video in full earlier today. A few notes on this video:
The video was shot on a cell phone (android) and streamed live via the cell provider's 4G network to Notch's Justin.tv account. Since video is very bandwidth hungry, there is a resolution limit, therefore, the video quality you see is as good as its going to get, even if Youtube re-encodes it to a higher resolution (you can't create video information from nothing).
The video is a little over 50 minutes long, but Carl has said that more streams from PAX are on the way, "later". The video filming was started by Notch, then Carl took over the cell phone after a few minutes, in order to film Notch playing minecraft 1.8. Carl also wandered around the Mojang area of PAX to show various other stuff.
The video demonstrated a few confirmed rumors, such as NPC villages (farms, buildings, wells, blacksmith shop), rivers, much MUCH larger oceans (and continents), new dungeons, endermen mobs and how they attack (no silverfish were seen but Notch did say they were already incorporated into that build he was playing, but are kind of rare), new bow/arrow physics (charging to make it shoot straighter, have more damage), new eating animation, "experience bar" and experience orbs (from killed mobs), the health-to-food relationship (the more hungry you are, the faster you loose health, or if you have full food bar, you gain health over time), instant "creative mode" switching and flying (in single player only?), sprinting (and attacking while sprinting), "much higher" cloud level.
A couple things that Notch said that were still not implemented as of yet in the current build; npc villagers (Jens wants to be able to interact with the villagers, Notch doesn't like the idea), a use for the "experience bar/orbs" (they are place holders in the current build, but he does have some plan for them).
A few of the other highlights from the video; they show the game they are helping to promote/distribute.... "Cobalt" from Oxeye Games (Jens worked there for years before going to Mojang). They show the android version of minecraft on the Sony Ericson phone. Also, they randomly show the entire Mojang team that is at PAX, including Notch, Carl, Jakob, Jens, Daniel K., Minecraftchick (I think her name is Stephanie), and Notch's wife Elin (playing minecraft like a pro).
They take some live viewer questions, but they were mostly things already gone over on the Wiki, but one thing I did note, after Notch commented on the cloud height being "much higher", someone asked about the about the new map height being higher and Notch said "no" and didn't elaborate. I don't know if Notch misunderstood the question or what, because Notch has stated that the map height will be customizable up to 512 blocks high. So maybe Notch wasn't thinking about the default height of 128 when he answered with the "no".
I really like the huge oceans with all the little islands.
