I tried to get on earlier today, and my world would kind of load, chat would kind of work, and then about a minute later I would crash without actually being able to do/interact with anything or go anywhere. I then was met with a Java.net Socket Exception Connection Error.
Looked it up and found I needed to update Java. But first, I had to get rid of my old Java to do this. I went under add/remove programs and got rid of it. After attempting to reinstall 3 times and failing, I finally got the most recent version of Java back on my computer.
Overjoyed, I attempted to return to Minecraft. I launched FTB and waited for the launcher to get up, logged in... and got a black screen, accompanied with an error noise but no error message. Confused, I tried this again with regular Minecraft launcher and after logging in, same result. Black screen, error noise, no error message.
So, onto the question: Any techy people have this problem before and know the fix for it? Do I need to provide any information before I can get help? Is this the proper place to ask or is there a more appropriate place where I can get help? (wasn't really sure, but the Forums link is now a Forums & Support link so thought I'd give it a go)
Thanks for any info anyone can provide. -Squippit

Is it just FTB thats not working? Tried vanilla?
I cant get on Vanilla. The regular Minecraft Launcher wont work. I never make it to the server select page on either.
I'm not sure if this was the error message you had:
Internal exception: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out; but I had it today too. All I had to do was restart my client though.
Almost that message, but not quite. I didnt get the Timeout part or the Read timed out part.
I was getting: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
Now I dont even get that though because I can't get past logging in. =l
so your actions were?
remove java->reinstall java->restart comp-> minecraft?
Restart comp? ... There's the one step I never take. Gimme a few minutes and Ill get back to you on that.
It's usually the thing that fixes it. Why I never remember to do it, Ill never know...
Wjg wins =o Minecraft works now. And no lag upon startup. I can immediately get to mining... (I never restart my computer. Ever O-o)
