I am very excited by this release, as rumors of powered track boosters have been rampant., but... I assume Broonie will not immediately upgrade to 1.5 when its released? He will probably want to try 1.5 on his test system to make sure the protection and Moderator plugins all still work before pushing the upgrade to the live server.
So, I'm not going to immediately update minecraft till I know CF|UK has updated the server, as updating wipes out previous versions.
Also, I highly recommend everyone backup their existing minecraft folder prior to the update. It can be found on Win7 systems in the %appdata% path:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
I cant wait
It will make weather and ive always wanted to be a storm chaser
Plus easy to get vook porkchop from zapped pigs

Wait, is pistons coming already? I thought that wasn't until a later update. And weather? Bah! It'll probably cause more lag than it'd be wroth.
Oh yeah...I remember now. He said it wouldn't' be in time for 1.5 but hopes for at least the exit of Beta on 11/11
Whenever I hear pistons, I imagine a bunch of glass tubes running throughout the server.
Beam me up Scotty!
Not too bad, it doesn't keep track of what you have done though, ie. you need to chop down a tree. Lol.
In other words, we're going to have messages popping up each time we cut a tree?
No, only the first time you cut a tree after the update.
I'll bet there's going to be loads of bugs for SMP.
This update will NOT have pistons. In fact, they are only 'in talks' with the guy who made the pistions mod. Nothing has been set in stone yet. However, the current update does have weather, and also the ability to have pigs get turned to zombie pigmen when struck by lightning, as well as pigs drop cooked pork if they are on fire when they die. Also, many other smaller things, like achievements (bleh), powered tracks/detectors (yay), and various tweeks to performance and video interface scaling. Also, and this is probably the one I'm most excited about, holding shift while clicking an item/stack in a chest or dispenser moves it instantly to your inventory, and the reverse is true as well. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to move a storage chest and thought "oh hell no" at the thought of all that dragging/dropping. I do enough of that in the game already. This should relieve some of that mouse hand fatigue.
The server has been updated now.
