O_O I love you Q. I mean Ii loved you before... But now it's more. <3
Umm, is it just me or is the server down?
how many blocks is 14x14?
think he means 7k blocks from x to both sides and the same for y but i have the same problem as uncle_freddy.
no server 4 me -_-
tried less than 8 hours ago and tried now still no server
the server only got updated last night so may not be fully perfect yet and because of sh!t loads of lag something may have happened.
I know at about 1am (:S) i couldn't get on...
Just to clarify, the border used to be at 3,500 blocks from the center of the map in all 4 directions. That meant the map was a square of 7,000 blocks by 7,000 blocks, for a total surface area of 49 million (assuming the map were completely flat terrain).
Now, the border is at 7,000 in every direction from the center point, for a total square size of 14,000 by 14,000 blocks, giving us a surface area of 196 million blocks (again, assuming the map were completely flat terrain).
This gives us a 147 million blocks of new surface area that is brand new. That is 3 times the size of the original map, so the expansion basically quadrupled the original map size.
If you are curious, the total map block count is 28.088 billion blocks possible (14,000 X 14,000 X 128), with roughly half that being air blocks, so 12.54 billion solid, usable blocks (if you count water, lava, and bedrock).
How many new player do we get nowadays? Is that why we expanded the map?
The reason of expanding the map, as stated way back when we got the new map at 1.8 update, is that we will now house the new features of the full release 1.0 in the expanded parts of the map. New terrain generation procedure, and whatnot.
The old map, prior to Beta 1.8 was pretty much more or less as big as the map now is, after the expansion. The map size after the update 1.8 was limited to 3500 blocks because there was a certainity that after 1.0, there would be new features to map generation.
In case of tl;dr:
More map, more features! : D
So, now we have a double map, with the center 3,5k blocks to each direction being how 1.8 beta release was, and 3,5k more blocks to each direction applicating to the newest full release of Minecraft, 1.0.
oh i didnt actually realise that myself.
doesnt it mean we'll also get some more strongholds?
Does this mean the nether also expands? And we get a new spawn? And the rails expand? And there will be snow biomes? And End portals in strongholds? And I'll stop asking so many questions starting with the word 'And'?
