i think that we definitely need to emphasize the importance of reading the rules to new players.
I think I may accidentally resort to ranting on appeals now
I agree. There have been so many ban appeals and thats only from half of the people who get ban and have the guts to fight for a place back on the server. I wonder if being a popular server is a good thing or a bad thing.
We do often give these users verbal warnings. And yet they ignore us. Probably griefers/trolls.
You agree to have read the rules when you link your account, if they don't read them, its not our problem
A case could probably be made that 90% of the rules are just common sense anyway. Unless you're completely new to Minecraft.
well even if they are new the rules still make sense...
I agree, I am new to minecraft but it kinds goes without saying not to act like a kid. (unless you are a a kid) but I think being strict on the rules are inportant, maybe a warning is needed first for minor rule breaking?
One thing I must say, is that the rules are not obvious to find AFTER you've signed up and linked their accounts. I recently got a bit of a bollocking from SGT_Blinky for violating building rules near spawn. The rules had only been updated about 2 days previous to me commencing my build.
Now I don't blame the staff for coming down on me about it - as they are here to enforce the rules of the server ... and in the end they all guided me on how to re-build whilst sticking to the new rules (without completely demolishing my build), for which I am very grateful.
Blinky gave me a link via MC for the updated rules, but it just linked to the forum main page, so I think this forum should inculde a section specifically for the forum rules, that it obvious from visiting the home page. It should also include the commands that various ranks of members can execute - mainly as it would explain to new members what benefits they would get by donating (as I've seen a few asking over the last few days in MC).
I run my own car owners forum, and understand how hard it can be to get members to obay the rules (but so far have only had to ban a few over the years for violations). So I know you need good Mods and Admin staff to help you enforce the rules. If anything, once a CFUK rules section is set up, I think it would be wise to add something to the MC sign-in script that notifies members of rule changes / upgrades (just in case, like me, they just log into the MC server day after day without checking the forum for updates).
Sorry for going on for so long, but I thought it had to be said.

That's kinda hard to miss XD
Well some people really do miss that sort of thing...

Broonie and the other mods have done their best to get the word across to New players about our Rules its just simply a case of whether the new member can be bothered to read the rules and think they can just do whatever they intend, Thats the problem and when players do read they aswell will do something stupid and get warned/ban etc but they have a more likely chance of staying on this server for having the common sense to read the rules. It also really depends on what this person is like.
maybe we should alter the name of House rules to Server Rules.
the reason why is what my driving instructor told me and thats always treat everyone on the road as if they are idiots and will do something stupid.
I realise the rules are in the menu list - but they are not all in that link. For example, there are no rules listed there about the Spawn area (i.e. building regulations in / around Spawn). That's why I suggested a seperate section of the forum just for the server rules.
The "House Rules" link should link to this section of the forum, as well as it being displayed on the main forum - That way people really can't miss it ... Plus I also think that "House Rules" should be renamed to "Server Rules" as mentioned by Larawyer.
This would not only allow Mod's to update the rules as required, but also allow members to comment on the rules if they thought they were unfair / wrong / etc... or even to suggest extra rules.
Also - if the rules get updated, everyone should recieve a PM to state so. That way, those that get an e-mail when they get a new forum PM will know asap. Rules were updated 2 days before I started building away from spawn and I then got a kicking for not keeping up-to-date with the rules ... if people are not told they've changed, how are they supposed to know? ... no-one's going to re-read the rules day after day to see if anything's changed.
I run a car owners forum, and if I get problems with members doing something wrong, that I decide to add a new rule/s to the website T&C's, I update the rules and e-mail everyone the new rules stating that if they do not agree with them, they should discontinue using the forum.
Just in case anyone get's the wrong end of the stick, I'm not having a go at anyone, just trying to make some constructive comments so that the rules are obvious to everyone, and people in the game don't have to keep asking the same questions again and again.
