There's no way to stop them exploding, they explode anyway even if they have lots of water if they are left on long enough
I've ran them straight for a couple hrs no problem, but when unloaded it's like they continue to work (but the water pump I had does not function unloaded)
yeah, the hole is new. I repaired them again (9th time?), and cried.
Sad times r.i.p 9th combustion engines

I've seen the show 3 times now. A++ would watch again.
I feel your pain Conathan - I had my combustion engines blow up on me before, despite adequate cooling and me being IN the chunk at the time (stood right next to them, chatting away to other members) ... left a small hole thanks to my basalt brickwork, but still destroyed most of the "compact" refinery I was making :'(
it's like the cooling systems just glitch for a split second regardless and "foom" gone.
No they blow up no matter what if you leave them on long enough, personally I find steam engines are the best
I noticed that the other night with my combustion engines. Had them running with water being pumped in continuously (they were already full of water)... I stayed with them for about 10 mins and checked them again - still full... Then I went about 40 blocks away to mine some basalt for about 5 mins, went back to check them, and the coolant had dropped to half, so I stayed with them for another 10 mins and they stayed at around 50% coolant level ... Weird!
