The last two or three (hang)chrashes of FTB i personally experienced there was always a wither spawned seconds or minutes before.
Whoever spawned them did you use power armor/weapons to kill it? There was a bug with powerarmor+wither+mystcraft. i'm starting to suspect it is only a powerarmor+wither bug
