Well i ave some tips.
Edit the texture of the clay in the terrain.png in minecraft.jar to something rly noticable like lets say bright pink that ya can see underwater.
Stay close to the shoreline.

rly is difficult to find, i am going to try and find some for you, free of charge ok.

It's not just hard to find, we have several explorers who like to explore new land before anyone else and get the clay before you (not me of course I'm chained to my projects near spawn this time).

I'll give you a holler if I find any!
Something I've found effective, is to find a desert biome.
They seem to be more abundant where there's lots of sand.

They require water and sand so...yeah. Need some? I explore so i have 2 stacks of clay balls+. I can get you some
