Hi all!

I have been mulling over a few ideas that I'd like to begin. I have not even started designing yet as I would like to make sure I have a few facts checked before I spend any time on it.

Things I need to check first

1. Scale. Without looking into the design phase just yet, I would estimate initially a size of the same width as the spawn castle and 2, maybe 3 times as long. The heigh of the 'thing' will probably be the same as the width of the spawn as well
   
2. Grief'ing protection. If I spend 3 hours laying blocks down, and some 12yo t$rd decides to knock holes all over it, what restorative measures are there currently?
   
3. Does it have to be practical or can it remain non-functional and just pretty to look at?
   
4. Time-lapse or live recording of carto - any suggestions? As this is both my first ever project, and my first ever LARGE-scale endeaveour, I'd like to record both live build and the carto output for looking back on in the future and to share
   
5. Permissions - am I allowed to do this? It won't be in anybody's town, but will be pretty visible from carto. Albeit not in the default view, it will be off to the North a while.
   

Details I am willing to share

1. This will be my very first project of any kind that does not involve building a 9x9 African-style mud hut to protect myself between days upon days of diamond hunting.
   
2. The nature of the project will remain a mystery, for as long as I would be able to. Obviously, as the thousands of years wade on and the subject persists on, the fog over the river would clear and it would because clear as to what I am doing!
   
3. As it rolls on and on, I would probably appreciate some resource collecting assistance, but the building of the thing itself I would like to claim solely myself but thank you in adv. I know you guys are a helpful bunch
   
4. I am hoping to incorporate it into the existing countryside so that rock, earth and man-placed chunks can co-exist is an amphibious fashion.
   
5. I have given not-so-subtle hints in this post as to what I plan on doing! If nobody gets it by the time I start building, and should people care, I am willing to have a bit of a competition with you lot! Whoever can guess it before I reach about 50%, I will donate money to the CF server on your behalf!

Any blocks removed / placed by anyone can be reverted if it's too much for one person to repair.

Sounds cool so far (even though I have no idea what it's gonna be). Just be careful where you start to build and make sure that no one else has projects planned in that area. I have some projects planned about 3000 blocks north and I don't want people building around my area. Well good luck on your project!

Im guessing if its something incorported into the landscape then some sort of decorative mountain

In what general northern direction are you planning to build? I have a Skyrail (under construction) going north, and if you want connection to it, I can help you with that part. If you, however, are planning on building far from it and don't want it connected, then never mind this.

1. As long as your building on unclaimed or unwanted space you should be fine.
2. All destroyed blocks can be reverted although this will only happen if its hard to replace. In other words they wont bother reverting 2 smoothstone.
3. Its your building it can do whatever you want it to do
4. As far as I know you would have to record it yourself-in other words I hope you have a big hardrive... a very big hardrive.
5. same as 1.

Each time I re-read your post I just keep looking at the word "amphibious" and know its something relating to water, so I keep thinking a boat of some sort. Or perhaps your own take on the Ark from Brink?
