New cart station design

I've had this idea rattling in the back of my head for a week or so... the possibility of simplifying the current button panels myself and Sgt_Blinky have been installing on the rail lines all over the map.

There are currently three types in use, two that Blinky favors, and one that was inspired by myself and refined by Discharge (currently only in use at my Mothership station). All three have their good points and bad points, however, all three have the common bad point of consuming a lot of resources and being so complex its difficult to build, even for experienced players who have built them before.

So I've come up with an alternative. Its a 4-button panel station, using only 1 output of a single RS-NOR latch (I think I just heard Blinky's head assplode).

The way I do this is to add an additional "primary" track switch. So you have a primary switch that directs you to one of two branches... from there you get routed onto one of two sub-branches. Total of 4 possible exits.

The primary switch only gets activated if button 1 or 2 gets pressed. Otherwise, it remains routed towards lines 3 and 4 normally. The primary track switch is powered by pushing button one or two, and uses a diode with a 4 tick delay to keep it switched till the cart goes by.

The single output of the RS-NOR latch is connected to both of the secondary track switches. It doesn't matter if both get switched at the same time, since the cart only goes to one of them depending on how the primary track switch is set.

Pics follow... but I don't know how informative they will be. You just have to see it in person. Anyone who knows me on the server can probably find their way to my test area under the Mothership, though.

I actually implemented something not far from this at one of my stations. It's a simple RSNor to change whether to go East or West. I had not considered doing quite as elaborately as you, but it's a very good idea. Personally I do like the current button system that is in most of the stations (the first one Blinky showed me, since it allows odd numbers, not only pairs (yes, I was the one who figured that out! tongue)), but yours is definitively far less consuming and a lot more cost effective.

I'll be playing around a bit to see what I prefer myself on my beach soon. But this is inspiring work, Batman. Well done! smile
