Underground Ravines (1.7)

So, Notch is struggling to keep 1.7 secret. He recently tweeted;

Keeping 1.7 secret is frustrating and hard work. I feel a constant need to spoilerize. Anyway, I added underground ravines.

Not exactly a spectacular update, but I thought I'd let you all know.

Looks kind of pretty. I like seeing some of the cave generations when exploring. You can come along some pretty neat things.

The lighting isn't natural, Notch tweeted later, adding that he flew down and placed the torches for the picture.

Latest update on ravines, they will be part of the new map generation code, but will work on old maps if you go into unexplored areas (just like tall grass does now). Also, if you delete existing chunks, and re-generate them, ravines/canyons will appear.

I was just wondering that there, you don't want to go down to your favourite mob trap/mine and find a big ravine through the middle of it.

Looks cool though
