NEW MOB COMING TO 1.2!
Ocelot!
Ocelot is a new mob due to come in in 1.2, they will spawn in the new jungle biomes. Ocelots are the first mob to sprint, their behavior seems to be shy, as the Ocelots will sprint away from the player once it gets close, and will stop sprinting and walk normally once far enough away. Ocelots can also be bred with Raw Fish. They will also hunt down chickens just like wolf do to sheep acept they will do it is very sneakly and punce on there prey

Other features to 1.2
New added fire charges, which are the same as ghast balls which can be fireed from dispensors to craft you use blaze powder. coal and gunpowder
Skeletons also have a better AI as they now will not chase you into the sunlight. It is not comfired but the intelligence for other Hostile mobs might increase also apparently
New posion, Bottle of Encahnting wihci will drop Experience points apon smash So far this posion can only be obtained in creative mode

There has also been sightings in the next updata snapshot of a new sandstone well type struction that spawns on deserts and beaches with freshly generated worlds. Its purpose is currently unknown

New Features with personal input
As of 12w05a : New mob behaviors. Creepers run away from cats. (Am I the only one who thinks this s messed up? xD) Cats can be told to sit. Mobs no longer attempt to jump over nether brick fences.
Villagers will try to detect village houses and live in them. Roam around at day and stay inside at night. Able to open and close doors.
Lava now has sounds. (uggh, hope its not annoying now) Ocelots are easier to tame. Updated language files, having 50% less profanities

Double doors now function Correctly and levers recongized there on and off stage
Zombies will now break down doors on hard or hardcore mode
Mobs have a chance of dropping a new Item such as a skeleton dropping a bow and a pigman dropping a golden sword and zombies will drop a whole manner of things
New animation for swimming mobs
Hostile mobs will attack NPC villagers now. Villagers also now get social with other villagers and will hide in doors when it turns night and when it rains
There has also been alot of talk about Villagers Treading in shops that mojang are walking on it now ever since john joined
There has also been alot of Bug fixes and Cats now make a noise!

Perhaps expanding the map? or regenerating a swath of ocean? Dunno seems like it should be theoretically possible but maybe its not lol
Perhaps if he "fixes" the biome code, we could just expand the borders again a little? So, 8k in each direction, up from the existing 7k. That would give us a 1,000 block wide strip around the existing map where jungle biomes could possibly spawn. Not sure how that could affect the map file size, though. I assume that a 1k strip that is basically 24k long would add a fair bit to the overall map file size.

I might have misunderstood, but from the Twitter thread I followed, Jens is saying that all maps in the future (as of 1.2x) will be "Anvil" format maps, and the old maps will be converted automatically to Anvil, with a backup made of the old map prior to conversion.
The new map format lets Jens simply add 128 blocks of air on top of existing maps. Since the Anvil format does not send air blocks, or "empty" spaces, to the client during chunk updates, the server impact should be negligible, even possibly causing better performance, since existing maps have a lot of air blocks from sea level up to 128.
Basically, I'm hoping my interpretation is correct, since it would clear the way for some vast new structures not possible before in Minecraft.

Also, one other thing that Jens stated in a Twitter post, glowstone will once again be able to conduct redstone and have restone dust laid on it.
I can't find the tweet right now, but basically, someone asked Jens if "the fact you can put redstone on glowstone again was a feature or bug". Jens replied its a "feature".

I decided to make a form of skyscraper to illustrate the magnitude of the new height.
This will certainly allow us to build structures never before seen in minecraft. It is also worth noting that the 25x25 blocks normally allowed for skyscrapers is insufficient. I believe 50x50 should give a reasonable base.
I for one would love a version of this.

Couple of quick points..... the redstone-on-glowstone was actually part of the game up till the 1.0 "final" version (I think). Also, we had the ability to put tracks on glowstone. After the update, tracks would pop off glowtone if a block update happened to the glowstone or track block, and we could no longer lay tracks on glowstone. That wasn't the first time it happened either, there was an update on the beta a while back that broke this, due to glowstone being switched in the code from block type 'stone' to 'glass'. Not sure why, in the final version, Jens switched it back to the redstone-incompatible type.... as he initially got a lot of grief for this.
Anyway, having redstone back on glowstone is not as big of a deal as having the ability to lay tracks on glowstone, personally. I would rather have rails than redstone on glowstone, tbh. It would make constructing skylines much simpler.
As for the render distance, remember that in single player the render distance is different than multiplayer. On servers, there is the ability to restrict how many chunks are sent to each client. The radius of what you can see around you is dependent on how many chunks the server is feeding you. I've already tested this in both single player and on the server, building a tower to 128 in an area I have reserved to build in, and the render distance even at 128 high is, in my opinion, lacking on the server currently. The build I have planned will not be fully visible from one end to the other.
Perhaps if the Anvil map format does allow better for performance in multiplayer, Broonie can tweak the chunk updates value a bit?

Nothing much but There is a new Mob called iron golems that can be found within NPC villages and protect them and the villagers from Zombies attcks and invasions. The player can kill them( very hard) and apon death will drop iron ingots and flowers. Stairs also now can be turned upside down to form arches and a few lighting fixes

Ive also heard those rumours and in the 12w18a server logic is changing so we dont have to mess around with the client. wooden tools can now be used in furnaces to smelt, villager professions out of spawn eggs and cocca beans will now drop from jungle trees

Minecraft 12w32a including new villager reactions( positive on new trades, negative if you attack them, Villagers don't remove trades but you may have to trade to get that trade back, Zombies and skeletons have new equiptment depending on difficulty, and a new zombie (it looks really funny) Added the command block to activate a command when activated by a redstone signal(no crafting recipe and not in creative menu but id is 137) And a suprise block (it's a work in progress but it looks like it adds a potion effect to something and takes emeralds, diamonds, gold and iron in exchange but it doesn't do much at the moment(on a side note it does give of light and is in the creative menu))
The new equpitment includes armour and wepoens by the looks of it, and a shovel aswell

water breathing's is going to be useful in waterworld and blindness seems to be a good thing to have in a pvp match There should be a weakness to invisibility except armor and the particles. maybe, like in tf2 as the spy, if you attack, you are hit or you interact (with a lever or chest) the invisibility is disabled temporarily. maybe zombies could still track you by smell?

Jeb twitted that we might be seeing a new block to the game known as quartz blocks that look similar to marble. There is also news of TNT carts, dispenser carts and spawner carts!

I believe you need to make a horse saddle to ride them (all be it, it looks no different to a normal saddle but meh) and used for riding from all I can gather. you have to earn their trust though before you can ride them.

They can wear armour also , and have specific attributes , size , appearance , jump height and length , speed and health , oh and there are donkeys that can carry items in a chest inventory . They seem interesting .
