Tekkit Server Lag

We are currently experiencing extreme lag issues on the tekkit server. We have figured out the problem. The problem is that there is a bug where the pips will spit out items, even if connected to another pipe. It probably has something to do with chunk issues. So now there are hundreds of blocks spilled on the ground by my quarry. It seems easy to fix, but none of us can get to the pile of blocks to pick them up because of how laggy it is.

Ok, we stopped the lag. Thank you 404thread, draze84, and WhoIsYou for helping to pick up the blocks and stop the lag.

Everyone- Please turn off your quarries when you aren't there to monitor them and when you log off.

Server restart would not fix this; it would involve having to delete the chunk in itself.

Be careful with your devices folks. This is exactly why I don't want world anchors.

i'm hoping this isn't the reason why the server just crashed. I've had a leaky pipe before but compensated with lots of gold chests. it seemed the server crashed when i logged in just now so i hope it hasn't happened again. if so i'll have to disconnect my quarries at log off, as suggested.

I'll see if i can create a lava overflow failsafe and or use RP pipes and put my progress forward as a "must have" for quarry uses to prevent others experiencing the same problems

Again, guys, turn off your machines when your not using them.

You'll just lag out the server and crash it for everyone.

We've just had to invoke action on the server to restore it back to 100%.

Consider this a warning, I don't want to have to limit/ban quarries.

Agreed. i turn off my quarry when i do either of these. 1. Long excursions away from the chunk since i share it with Techmav and Ariana. 2. offline. Never had a problem and make sure you have enough storage and decent piping/power to deal with the influx of materials. What happened to dubien was unfortunate, the system seemed to be working fine. But the random pipe dropping blocks even effects my well oiled machine sometimes. So i agree with broonie 100% be careful, check your quarry often and turn it off before you go offline.

Can you clarify: is it mainly buildcraft stuff that does this? A lot of the IC2 stuff seems to happily go to idle e.g. its powered but not doing anything, is that sufficiently "off".
I'm guessing an IC2 miner unit could potentially cause a similar issue if the chest filled up or was missing but when I tried one it drilled to bedrock pretty quickly, and halted there.

An over-literal interpretation of the announcement would mean having to run a redstone "kill circuit" to my batboxes or break the wiring every time I log out.

Batboxes and similar energy storage are perfectly safe. they do not create items since do not lag the server. Only machines mining/creating items can create problems, like, quarrys, miners and so on.

By "Turn machines off", does this only refere to induction furnaces, rotary macerators etc... Or does this also apply to MFE/MFSU? Since it still is "active" when I'm not around.

I can't say this for sure but i think that's a catch all. The problem that we've had is with any machine connected with pipes especially long pipes that cross chunk borders which start dropping items while the machine is on.
Turning it off before you leave will stop this from happening. Items such as quarries, filtering machines, Recyclers and Mass fabricators etc.

Yeah, I've a control room full of levers to kill all the machines, but does anyone know for certain if we must make a kill switch to any type of EU storing device?
