That really is gorgeous. Exactly the sort of thing that should have been in minecraft from the start in my opinion!

definitely!

I'm currently trying to get it working with tekkit right now. it can be done (seen videos of it) but it's becoming quite a pain in the butt!

ok i've successfully managed to get an older version of it working with tekkit. it's RC3, so it's without the fancy reflections sadly.

I've also managed to get all the faithful texture packs for the mods together for a complete higher resolution tekkit pack.

I'm going to assume that I can distribute this file called "modpack.jar" because it doesn't contain anything by Mojang and is distributed by tekkit anyway. The only things changed are Optifine to the Ultra version with multithreading and the addition of Sonic Ether's Shaders.

EDIT - This will only work for ATI video cards. Nvidia support isn't properly working (if at all). hopefully he gets that ironed out in the next update, but we still cant use it for tekkit until it goes 1.3 frown

place the modpack.jar in %appdata%\Roaming\.techniclauncher\tekkit\bin

and obviously the texture pack where it should go too.

oh forgot to mention, this is for ATI cards only. are you on nvidia?

Sonic Ether is fixing nvidia support atm so it's not fully (if at all) working.

RC5 got released today!

this is the one with the coolbump mapping and new lighting system.

I have to say it looks GORGEOUS and runs like a dream on my Radeon 5870.

the only downside is the texture pack needs to support the reflection and bump mapping. without it everything looks too shiny and flat.

here's some screenshots and a link at the bottom to the files. it's a finiky one to install so if you need help, just ask.

Ahh! Sonic Ether's. Pure beauty. Maybe too good looking to fit for Minecraft? Anyway it's brilliant and everyone should try it if they have the graphics card for it.

I never understand why anyone uses Lens flares in Games. Unless your looking through a camera in the game(For example through a security camera in a level) its completely unrealistic. Lens flares only apply to camera's not the human eye.

The corona effect would be more realistic. Battlestar Galactica Online does it well.

Not.ch would have never made any money, game would have died long ago. There is not enough people who have computers which would handle them for Minecraft to have been able to be spread by word of mouth and been so successful. The fact that pretty much any computer can play the game means FAR more people can play the game and give no.tch money.

Its exactly how Free to Play games are generally more successful (At attracting players and keeping them) than subscription only ones as you have a far larger pool of potential players.

Most games just have some options for how fancy the rendering is, generally automatically adjusted to your computer when you first run the game...

Yes but you will notice that if a game has shaders then they generally require a specific shader version. Most developers are lazy. Its only a few games like UFO Afterlife where you can play the game on multiple shader versions (It has variable parts to the shaders which are enabled/disabled based on what version your card has). UFO Afterlife can also be played without shaders (Even though it was never designed for non-shader cards, granted it has graphical errors).

In the past games properly scaled (I remember playing games with a computer far under the minimum requirements until shaders were born. My Voodoo card rocked back then). These days games are tied to a minimum shader version where they literaly won't work without that shader version (Which is stupid as its easy to make the shaders scalable).
