Not just a hole in the ground, its a hole in the ground ON FIRE!!!

Is the nether more hostile in Tekkit, I didn't notice huge amounts of stuff going boom on the regular server? Then again one problem with an "anything goes" zone in tekkit is just how much "grief" players have access to...

I think ghast fireballs weren't destroying netherack on the regular server, wheras on tekkit they appear to. I'm guessing the explosion damage rules are set differently?

Also is it worth moving the spawn portal on the world side so it doesn't open in the crater, or filling the crater in, or is that just how it is take it or leave it? Last time I looked the portal was a bit crosslinked, though I've destroyed the one I made.

Ghast fireballs does destroy netherack in the vanilla server.

Hell is hell, its a free PVP zone and there is no rules, except one that is :
- Do NOT create portal in the nether.

In Tekkit there is a mod that add Extra Ores to the Nether ... It has a slight chance to cause explosion.

Hell is hell again no need to fill up the holes you mined ... if it was beautiful and flat and without obstacle ... it wouldn't be called hell. lol

Why is opening portals from the nether blocked? The only reason I can think is to stop new portals popping up in other people's builds in the world map? Its a pain that portals can't be relit once broken and on vanilla it caused me a very annoying crosslink.

So the explosions are caused randomly when something is mined?

IMO a free PVP zone works a lot better when you're mostly limited to swords, arrows and maybe the odd fire charge. Throw in dynamite, nukes and the variable-yield BFG9000 (aka mining laser) and you guys'll be down to bedrock pretty soon. Not that I'm complaining though...

boriseng

exactly. that's one very important reason. I definitly wouldn't want someones portal popping right into my house through my chests or something like that

i think the main issue there is when exploring hell is that there are some nasty lag spikes. i disabled particle effects and still can't manage to wander around "safely".

Only those nether ore will explode at a random chances when u mine it. and yes. it is a grief placing a portal on people places but you are not really aware of that. so it is banned to lit portal in nether.

You can plot your own distance in the livemap, making sure there is no one living 1000 block nearby at minecraft.crazy-fools.co.uk because portals will link to any existing portal 1000 block in range.

OK just for the record:
I read that the buildcraft quarry could be used in the nether so I thought I'd try a IC2 miner.

OK If anyone can retrieve it from the crater THEY ARE WELCOME TO IT if it doesn't fade its directly under the chest which I'm not even going to try to retrieve, I'm just going to build another one. At least I got the power source, bit and scanner back.

If I try that again I think I'll use obsidian for the drill platform, stone bricks might do, cobble is way too weak.

lol boris. Thank you for testing whether ores explode when mined by an IC2 miner tongue

Yeah you can name the crater after me if you like.

I'll probably have another go but only once I figure what to use for the platform. Also I figure that ore explosions must chain, so don't mine in nether caves.
