Michael_scott, Mon Oct 29 2012, 05:02PM

Hey!

I'm getting more minecraft errors again although unless teamspeak is down for everyone again it may be stupid virgin again (its happened a lot before). Just wondering if anyone else has this now.

Ive tried all the DNS setting fixes but none worked.

i had the excact same problem...
You fix it by:
1) goto C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
2)Remove the hosts file to another location
3)Open it with notepad++
4)Delete the text on the bottom line. (Line 22)
5)Save and put the host back into C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

It should work after this smile

Your DNS is fine, can you access the carto?

Can access the carto fine Broonie. Thanks for the help btw

Your DNS is fine, download a port scanning tool and try access minecraft.crazy-fools.co.uk:25565

If you cannot access port, your firewall is likely to be blocking the ports.

I reinstalled minecraft turned off my firewall added the address' to my firewall afterwards and still no luck frown. I hope that 1.4 hasnt done to me what 1.3 did to sekoj although that shouldnt effect tekkit if im right.

The only way you'll know is if you go through what I've said above.

Please uncheck the 'use default ports list' radiobutton and enter 25565 as port range
Re: Cant Connect to server.
BRooNiE, Thu Nov 01 2012, 08:27AM

As Adrenalynn suggested, use port range 25565 to 25565

It'll be worth checking 25555 as well.

So far though, it looks as if a firewall is blocking your access to 25565/25555.

This is common with some providers if you do a lot of downloading from torrent based sites in an attempt to throttle such activity.

I do know of a way to bypass these filters but I'll have to do some configuration on the server end, we'll leave that as a last resort.

Agreed. So far the only ISP i've found that doesn't give me connection issues to any server is Sky. BT being the worst for "Empty packets" or randomly sending a "Jumbo Frame" to stall your connection.

It looks like those ports are fine to me which is a mixed blessing really...

Java might be getting blocked by your firewall. Check that out.

TalkTalk has never blocked me from anything (And despite some of the bad reviews about them i have never really had anything to complain about since we started using them around 2008. Hardly any downtime and when there is its normally fixed within hours).

I think you're one of the lucky ones Stuc. i've dealt with over 45 users in our local area repeatedly even after so called repairs were done and hearing of more and more just complaining about the cowboy installs and bad net side administration. Cool that yours is all good though.
Re: Cant Connect to server.
BRooNiE, Fri Nov 02 2012, 08:52AM

The fact is that TalkTalk have their own equipment based in exchanges, along with other ISP's. This what gives them the cheap cheap price as they don't use BT's infrastructure at an access layer level. (The switching equipment, not the lovely twisted copper pair underground)

Some companies invest more in their infrastructure than others, some may opt for high-end equipment whilst others go for cheap-and-easy equipment.

Overselling can become a factor if an ISP doesn't put in considerable growth measures with expansion, as well as both system and physical measures to control and divide bandwidth accordingly.

TalkTalk does have a reputation for overselling, as well as taking time to replace faulty equipment. Overselling bandwidth is always a big no-no as that's what causes packet loss and disconnections. Luckily if your in an area where there is low-demand or sufficient space and bandwidth, you'll be fine.

A brilliant site to use for information is here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

If your ISP has a tick under LLU operator presence, it means they are likely to have their own equipment in the exchange, if not, they are more than likely to be using BT's wholesale network. So in reality your using BT's service from the ground up even if your with a different provider.

They don't have there equipment in my Exchange. We've always had to pay £10+ for it. Though at the same time i live in a village (proberly 1,000 people) so we aren't the highest priority for them.

Stucuk

You'll be using the BT wholesale network then. Getting a BT service at a TalkTalk price.
