Perhaps you can lead it around to the PvP maze. Will save some people a load of ice farming.

Where's this PvP maze
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
Chista, Fri Jan 04 2013, 02:49PM

entrance will be at 2031,1591. The maze is still under contruction but i hope to get it done soonishly
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Fri Jan 04 2013, 04:24PM

I don't know if I'll be bringing it there I have to see where it is first to see what direction I have to go in
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Fri Jan 04 2013, 04:34PM

I found where the entrance is on the live map and that a good bit away and I've already built some of the rail and like I said before it goes north and I cant't take it all down then start all over again going south unless I can get a lot of spruce and I can't do all that myself
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
BennyFingers, Sun Jan 06 2013, 02:46PM

Corey, since atm there isn't a way for non-donators to get back to spawn town I think the Skyrail project should be finished as you originally planned it. I'm sure people will help with materials and buildings to get it done.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
Freddyfrog, Sun Jan 06 2013, 05:08PM

xXunpureXx asked me if i wanted to make a town with him the other day so a rail would be great for that , cfuk needs more towns again .
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Mon Jan 07 2013, 03:51PM

Corey i am switching to Jungle Wood instead of Spruce for the Tracks as you can get alot more in a shorter space of time(4 Jungle Saplings to create a Large Jungle Tree gives alot of wood). We can use Spruce to indicate where the redstone torches are instead of the Jungle Wood.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sat Jan 12 2013, 12:50PM

The Skyrail will continue to go to New Spawn/Spawn but I will not be able to try to build more from Monday-Thursday since I've got important stuff going on then, so I am looking for people to help with the construction of this, so if you want to help reply saying I'm interested or I'll help or something that let's me know you want to help and if you've been allowed to help and don't know what your doing ask Stucuk (since me and him are building it) if he's on the server or ask me on this thread mkay
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 13 2013, 05:01AM

Jungle Wood and Rail donations would be welcome.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Sun Jan 13 2013, 05:04AM

i'll help out a bit. What is needed most? Just jungle and/or spruce wood? i'm happy to help with track building, too. Is the path for it already planned?
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 13 2013, 06:41AM

Any wood would do. Jungle is the easiest to get in large numbers (As you can use 4 Jungle Saplings to create a large jungle tree).

Rails are needed the most out of all resources(as well as Powered Rails).

We're about half way between old spawn and new spawn. Though thats not with rails, just the wood the rails go on.

We're making up the route as we go based on what user builds are currently around. We try to stay away from builds where possible(Though some people have built under the skyrail. We have never built on top of someones build. People are free to build under the skyrail as long as there is at least 10 blocks distance between the bottom of the skyrail and a users build).

@Corey: I have simplified the Maintanance Walkway. Future bits of it are 2 blocks lower and in the middle of the 2 rail lines. This means less wood is needed for it and because its lower we can walk directly under the blocks which the Redstone Torches are attached to.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 13 2013, 10:29AM

okay so should I try and get a plot in New Spawn for a Station or should we wait a bit, it'll have to be south of the actual point at were you spawn, don't want a Skyrail going straight through spawn or any other ideas tell me
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Sun Jan 13 2013, 10:35AM

i do recommend building a station and a bit of rail at new spawn so others know where it will be. best bet is probably somewhere south of paragers reserved land around the bomberman arena
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 13 2013, 11:08AM

I was thinking somewhere near that path that takes you to the bomberman arena and plus the station will be in the air so really we'll not be using his reserved land :3 idk
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 13 2013, 11:38AM

Now I'm thinking we should wait until we get closer to New Spawn then get a big enough plot round the outskirts of New spawn to build a station the plot would have to be big to make the station big but the station will be in the sky like the other one so on the ground in the plot we'll just build like a staircase up or if we could get a lot of pistons we could build a elevator.... what yas think about that idea?
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Sun Jan 13 2013, 01:59PM

An elevetator would be great! I think i saw a youtube video a while ago with a very compact design. i'll try to find that again.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
BennyFingers, Sun Jan 13 2013, 02:16PM

Last time i tried to build a piston elevator it wouldn't work, the timings were all wrong. Think it may be impossible on a server. That was a while ago though.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 13 2013, 03:34PM

Stairs work fine.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
Ryona4, Sun Jan 13 2013, 05:28PM

Single player and Multiplayer is the same thing now, so it should work on both.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Mon Jan 14 2013, 03:43AM

Single player and Multiplayer is the same thing now, so it should work on both.

Ryona4

Cobblestone Factories powered by pistons are effected by lag. The water/lava don't always cause Cobblestone(Not sure if its the pistons or the water/lava) between the piston retracting and extending. I created one at the old spawn (Operated by a button so it doesn't impact the server) which causes it to generate cobblestone 3 times (Basically like pressing the button 3 times) and it always does at least 1 row but it doesn't always do the 2nd or 3rd.

So piston elevators may not work perfectly on a server. With singleplayer you won't have really any lag between server and client as you are both.

who put alot!!! of jungle wood and rails in the donations chest thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Mon Jan 14 2013, 05:52PM

We're really freaking close to Spawn I know because I looked at myself on the livemap and because I fell off twice and ran back in less than a couple of minutes so should I see if we can get a plot near the outskirts of spawn?
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Mon Jan 14 2013, 07:57PM

Okay we can't go into spawn so we're bringing the Skyrail close to spawn and I can't reach the server for some reason, Adrenalynnn is on the Skyrail any ways and he knows where it's going
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Mon Jan 14 2013, 09:27PM

And thanks for the Rail donations
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Mon Jan 14 2013, 10:20PM

We have reached spawn the whole structure of the sky rail isn't finished so we'll finish the whole structure of the rail first. I'll try to design a station I'll sketch it then build it in creative cause I've got a rough idea of it or if you have an idea or something just say it. So we'll leave the New Spawn station to last cause theres no point building one when the whole structure of the skyrail isn't finished tongue
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Tue Jan 15 2013, 05:49AM

The second track path is almost done. only a few blocks more in the middle. i'll finish that this evening.
At the (new) spawn end i did a test design with levers and glowstone for the powered rails. not sure if you like it? if not just rip it apart
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Tue Jan 15 2013, 01:00PM

Don't use levers. Redstone Torches go under the rails(Don't know if a lever would work under the rail). With the new spawn end i changed the design so it doesn't need a walkway, but its the same system as used on the bits which have a walkway. Where you have a block in the middle of the tracks with redstone torches either side of it(Under the rails). Just destroy one of the line blocks, place a redstone torch on the middle block and then replace the line.

Glowstone isn't a good idea as the rail is very long and you would need a large amount of it. Torches are better as you can get alot of them easily.

P.S You can get away without having Powered Rails so often. At the old spawn end Corey got away with large distances between them.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
boriseng, Tue Jan 15 2013, 01:28PM

FWIW it may be worth using more powered rails than strictly nessecery, otherwise you may get unmanned carts left on the track in places. Of course on the uphill gradients empty carts will probably roll back and can be "filtered out" that way.

I've been playing Tekkit too long to really comment on Vanilla rail rules but I seem to recall that for manned carts with a good launch you could have 8 or more regular rails between boosts but for unmanned carts any more than 5 was likely to make the cart roll to a halt.

Also if you do hit a stopped cart on a well powered track you'll probably just push it ahead of you, whereas on a less well powered track you'll roll to a halt.

Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Tue Jan 15 2013, 04:04PM

so just try and finish the whole structure of the rail first i'll claim that land we're at at new spawn to no takes it
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Tue Jan 15 2013, 04:29PM

The optimal spacing for powered rails in singleplayer is 38. Multiplayer is very different of course. With a personal rail i had no problems with one every 15 blocks. The skyrail in oldworld uses one every 13 iirc
I'm ok with any value but i guess we should set one value to use before starting to build the rail. The powered ones, at least. Normal rails can be placed beforehand ofc
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Tue Jan 15 2013, 08:47PM

The middle part of the Skyrail is now done I just finished it then went of Minecraft for a break :3

Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please

I put a list of the contributors and people who helped in the construction of the Skyrail on the first post and we're out of rails and I was also thinking if we should name the Station khoe suggested Silverfish Station and I was thinking we should name the Skyrail too, I came up with interspawnional but it's weird if you try to pronounce it lol any suggestions for whose two?
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Wed Jan 16 2013, 05:01PM

common rails done for both tracks.
didn't start with the powered ones yet since i'm still unsure about the spacing to use. When you started the rail from oldspawn there are some really large spacings but it seems to work fine. So no idea which value to use?
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Wed Jan 16 2013, 05:50PM

I was putting down some powered rails where it felt like there needed to be some cause the cart was getting real slow, sure if you find a good spacing go ahead and do it cause it'd be better the way I was doing it lol
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Wed Jan 16 2013, 07:39PM

Should we do a grand opening to the skyrail once it's all finished? Lol
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Wed Jan 16 2013, 08:38PM

After talkin with corey i just settled with a 19 spacing (one powered every 20 blocks). Seems to work well so far, for me at least. Only about 200-300 blocks left to power on the oldspawn side. Once that's done i guess we need some beta testing.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Wed Jan 16 2013, 08:40PM

We'll beta test it after to see if it's up to standards tongue

adrenalynn, Thu Jan 17 2013, 05:51AM

A big thank you to Benny then, too smile

Just placed the last few powered rails. Testrun north worked fine Yay! South direction i had one issue with the station in the middle near oldspawn. Cart did brake too late and i had to exit and replace the cart to continue. Other than that it worked fine too.
Does anyone have a particular bad/laggy connection? I'd love to hear if it works under such conditions too.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Thu Jan 17 2013, 12:58PM

I've been testing the rail on both lines it's working fine and I fix the stopping part near old spawn too, don't want any1 using it until the whole rail is converted to the new streamline one then we could do a grand opening or something
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please

coreytbay

Why not? You can do the work from the walkway. Just place the middle row and then destroy the walkway its how i was doing it.

Destroying the glass at the oldspawn one (Not the actual station glass just the lines, will be easy.

Mkay I'll start destroying more of the bottom when I come on later
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please

I had some spare rail, I dropped it into the chest, and then discovered you had sort of finished it, oh well... smile
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 20 2013, 01:12PM

Well, the Skyrail project may be extended if there are more destinations people want connected up.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 20 2013, 04:40PM

The Skyrail project can keep going there's no stopping us we can say like there's different branches of the Skyrail project if we're to ever do another Skyrail to another destination, if you read the the first page of posts you'd see of destinations that might welcome a Skyrail to that area, so have a look at that
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Sun Jan 20 2013, 11:30PM

If we ever do make more the best idea would be to convert a section of track into a "Switching Station". Where you could then goto multiple destinations. Somewhere where there is no other builds. That way it could go in any direction without hitting someones build and the existing stations wouldn't need to be modified.

To keep them simple, if ever built it should be where you get out of the minecart and place it on another set of tracks if you want to switch or press a button to continue. Rather than some complex system.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
, Mon Jan 21 2013, 04:14PM

Well keep that method you said if we start another skyrail to save us time and wood
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
Soul_UK, Mon Jan 21 2013, 07:58PM

The "Dismount and join a new rail" system is the easiest to set up and for people to use. Just make sure there is sufficient land around each stop point to allow the player to dismantle their cart from their old track without them loosing it over the side.
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
kniznik, Wed Feb 20 2013, 11:47AM

Is anyone having a lag a couple of meters away from new spawn station when using rails? I wanted to try it yesterday and both by foot and by cart there was an uber lag for me near new spawn station despite riding perfectly fine all the way from old spawn till that point
Re: Skyrail project, READ!! please
adrenalynn, Wed Feb 20 2013, 04:09PM

same here. the lags seems to be mostly 1-2 chunks at z ~= -870. A bit northwest of the skyrail station someone started a sheepfarm with ~100 sheeps. Maybe that causes it when the sheep chunks are loaded/unloaded. Maybe. It's ~110 blocks away so the distance would fit.
Did set /warp addyreport there if a mod wants to check that out
