The 'server is down' REPORT thread.

If a server is down, please reply to this thread.

Write which server is down, and at what time it went down.

Before posting, ensure that the incident you are reporting has not already been posted in this thread. Please do not use this thread for any types of discussion. Failure to do so may result in warnings.

I have e-mail notifications for this thread turned on, so I should receive notifications upon a reply.

Please allow up to 24 hours for the server to be restarted, however most cases it will be within 6 hours.

This does not include modded servers, which up to 72 hours should be allowed for a restart.

There is a bug with Steve's carts which is causing crashes all over.

Remember, FTB is buggy and always will be. I want to remind that this thread is not comments, discussion, or anything. Just as a notification that the server is down.

And 19:04 squippit server runs on GMT. Someone spawned a wither and i'll bet my ass off attempted to kill it with power armor

Well i do believe i crashed fekkit when i placed a refinery (Thermal expansion type) and tried to use the omni wrench on it... odd..

As an addition to Blocks post. Myself and Who were still in the server. Suffering severe lag spikes. I stupidly disconnected so not sure if the server is actually fully down or just unresponsive at this time.

FTB is runnig normal again. It was severe lag and i think i caused it. Was heading far out in twilight and probably generating too many new chunks

There was about 10 min where 0 blocks where dropped when mined it fixed its self then crash around 10 min later.

Server is FTB. GMT it was at 09:50. Seems to be an endless restart loop. Maybe caused by me since i placed two quarries close to eachother (only 1 chunk distance). Managed to take them both down again so the chunks should be unloaded but still restart loop

Server restarted, all seems stable except some empty tanks and a few other glitches during the issue.

Stable time: 15:47 (30 minutes active no issues)

Update: at about 15:20 there was daily server restart for backup. Since then FTB runs fine again.
Draze and me had some issues with suddently empty tanks (railcraft, iron tanks). My suspision is something related to ender tanks since we both used them and they are known for causing chunk resets/problems.

Still says "Can't reach server" and "Failed to receive challenge", I was able to play on Unleashed but I just checked and Ultimate is down.

Edit: I tried connecting just to see and it tells me "Connection refused: connect".

FTB Ultimate server is down again at 7:07am GMT-6 and I think I found out why, this is the second time I've gone to new spawn and it's crashed, the chunk looked cut up and stuff, like a render error or something, screenshot will be posted. Is this a corrupted chunk maybe? I did tell Hotmage of a Nether Portal glitching into the protected spawn platform earlier this week, not sure if it has been reported further than that though.

Edit: Server came back up, not sure what time as I was away but it spawned me in new spawn unlike last time where I was booted to the place I warped from. I am not sure about this so I will refrain from warping to new spawn until there is word on what caused it.

To clarify, the Unleashed server is the one down. I was running around and ended up in a chunk error I didn't see, perhaps that's why.

Or perhaps it was me, I was making golems fill items into generators, but accidently made them feed items into the top of the generator (wich only accepts items on the bottom). And the server crashed quite instantly after i placed down the golems.

I quite often see chunk errors when moving around the map, so I wouldnt think it would be that. Golem's possibly? Sounds unlikely but maybe Broonie can fill us in when he see's the logs.

Tested the scenario of golems feeding items into generators top slot in single player. And my game client did infact crash once the top slot of the generator was full of items, and the golem tried to insert more items into the generator. So my fault.... ops :/

It seems to me that Broonie is heavily relied on to reboot and look after the servers and since it would seem that these Minecraft servers are not his life (or in fact livelihood) it would make sense to have a few volunteer people available to kick the servers if Broonie is not about.

You guys don't know me IRL but in my spare time away from playing Minecraft I own and run a UK web hosting company called ServWise (www.servwise.com) so you could say I have a little experience with server administration. I've also created my own MC servers for my own use and so am least capable of restarting MC at very least.

I would happily offer my services voluntarily should Broonie wish to entrust access to a third-party and since I spend my working day monitoring and dealing with servers I am maybe more available than Broonie might be.

Broonie if you are interested in some assistance please pm me. I would be happy to help..

To be honest Spin. The only reason CFUK is so secure is because broonie is extremely reluctant to give anyone secondary access to the backend. Only one person "Flightster" i believe has been allowed while Broonie was on vacation.

Also please create a new thread for further discussion of topics. We need this forum as clear as possible besides the "server down" etc.

Sure draze, just thought I would offer considering my skill set and background. Security wise giving a linux shell user the ability to run a script that restarts the MC instance is not really a security issue, you could even make it web based and just give access to click a button on an admin screen but in most cases where MC has just crashed thats enough to bring it back to life.

Thanks broonie. Probably me. To note for anyone the setup i've been using is liquiducts, a railcraft tank and a tesseract. This is the setup from last night also without the accidental connected pipes. If it is that we need to find the problem and stomp it before it happens again. But we'll see what it is when broonie gets home.

seems to be running fine now Broo. The only two things i can think of are 1. The liquid router i removed due to suspicions and 2. whatever wesniipe was doing at the time.

Sometimes the automated server restart fixes it. But usually broonie has to check the log and restart it himself when he manages to get online to do so after work. That should be in around a few hours.

In this case, the restart is what crashed it, or what crashed it occured within 15 seconds before restart (it never came back up) So it looks like it's definitely a case for Broonie.

Something seems to be killing FTBU again. One of the times it crashed was when I was crafting redstone energy cells though ae which makes me suspect that was what crashed it (not going to test this theory). Other than that I don't think I personally have anything that kills it (most crashes happened when I wasn't doing anything in particular). FTBU seems to be really unstable modpack in general.

I believe this was due to myself as it crashed my client then apparently the server didn't like the packets it was recieving.

I think everyone lagged up massively before the kick, I was trying to thank morty but nothing would send after a few red lines in the console finalized by a nullPointer. Looks like it was trying to read and decrypt files from an unknown source?

Jeeze - I log out, go for a smoke, come back and the server's gone again

For info, when I first checked the forum (when I came back) it showed 9 players in FTBu, after I was getting the "Failed to connect to server" error. I then refreshed the CFUK homepage and it then showed "Failed to recieve challenge" under the FTBu user list.

I have seen this a few times before when trying to connect when the server is down (i.e. I see players listed on the CFUK website, but can't connect to the server ... then I refresh the web page and get the Failed Challenge message on the website). Could it possibly be the user list plugin causing the problems?

EDIT: Since the kick, I'm also getting the "Cant reach server" error, no matter how many times I refresh it.

Probably was me this time. I had some trouble with a soulshard spawner. switched between rednet cabling and redstone wire.
Directly before the crash i was placing unpowered rednet cable at the soulshard spawner block

EDIT: Server back up after 3 mins. Restart timer remaining 5 hours. The crash locked us into the server. It happened last night as well causing a small rollback of sorts around about the same time. I had everyone check and nothing was missing this time.

If age creation rate is about the same across the board, the restart crashes started around age 45-60 last time too.

Server restarted, possible fix implemented.

Note: An individual expects me to always be around the time of restart - really? Good server support doesn't mean I fix all the bugs in FTBU, I have to spend the time behind the scenes trying to find the cause and implement a workaround to a bug I didn't even create - look at the vanilla server, it's perfectly fine, blame the FTBU mods, not the host. One of the reasons I don't bother partaking in discussions anymore.

Y-Day the fix worked, today it didn't, I put in a new fix today. And I'm spending all my other time re-coding the CFUK plugin for 1.7. Geez~

FTBu server crashed / rebooted without warning about 21:50 GMT. We all logged back in ... then it re-booted / crashed again without warning a few minutes later ... we all logged back in ... then it crashed again, not to come back up again at 21:55.

Weird!

After a few mins it "seems" to be back up and running :S

Ok FTBu down (22:50) and i know why.
on the image theres a hole up to the next floor
There seems to be ghosted blocks inside this hole. I attempted the piston fix as you do to fix the microblocks issue to force update the airspace.
Unfortunately this caused a server crash.

The coordinates are on the image i managed to snap before the server went down.

I'm not sure what could be done to fix this short of a chunk reset.

EDIT: Server restored. However i still think a chunk fix on this area is required to fix these odd missing blocks.

It's completely corrupted again, a different mod this time, wireless redstone, unknown block ID, but it's trying to register something that doesn't exist, basically.

17-10-2013's live snapshot also has corruption
16-10-2013's backup was corrupted, from the info panels.
15-10-2013's is the last known good backup (again)

Rough crash time : 14:10 - 14:30

I'm getting that too Alex - The server is down. I can't remember when the servers were going to be moved to the new server hardware, so perhaps it has something to do with that.

I just looked at the server map, and in the past the time would keep repeating the last few minutes during a crash. This time round the clock is counting normally, but the sun / moon graphics that move in the clock are not moving.

Also, if you look on the CFUK main web page where it lists the players on each server, it says "Failed to receive challenge. " - another way of knowing the server is down

FTB Monster is down ( approx. time: 22:15 ).. on website for player status it says: "Failed to receive challenge." and that happens when server is not operational..

edit: It seems like it's going down and back up.. it's like it is very unstable at the moment, can someone confirm this?

yeah, RaZorEDD just told me that he has no problems until I log in.. He says it crashed every time I logged in..

as for machines.. I played last time around 17:30 today and I just moved the advanced genetics machines.. but didn't even turn them on yet.. Those machines worked fine yesterday.. Also there were people playing after I left.. Maybe someone else placed something new?

hmm hypothesis is that methane gas blew it up.. but on returning just pressing F7 to see chunks liable to mob spawns lit it up like a xmas tree and lagged me, so a quick /home was in order.

i've set a warp to d2crash for further analasys

i'm of the opinion that without a "canary" type block to detect gas that this is a liability and needs to be removed from the world gen until such a fix is released.

FTBM *may* be fixed, I don't think updated code is out for it yet.

The server is online according to the indicator on the front page however confirmed unable to connect "End of stream" Etc etc. FTB reboot unnafected.
MC.net shows login/sessions online and stable.

This could be a problem with FTB monster itself. Everytime this happens i suddenly can't connect to steam. Could be that the error occurring is causing a fault with our net connection. Testing PC reboot Will update on results.

Well it may break steam after it crashes like this but reboot did not help. Will wait for broons to check the server logs.

not so much a server is "down" report, but issues kicking all players off the FTBM server atm, i get the error "Internal server error", only 3 of us on atm, Alex, PatentedFiend and myself.

None of us doing anything exciting, i'm just exploring, alex is planting stuff and PatentedFiend is placing wool last he said.

I was having a similar problem to this at about 2am UK time yesterday morning, but with the Vanilla server. Basically, internet would be working fine (I'm streaming music at the time), then log into Vanilla. About 10 secs after I log in, my streaming music stops ... and a few seconds after that I'm booted through lack of connection.

To add some extra weirdness, I had complete lack of internet access afterwards - but all my network tools and troubleshooters said I was connected. Steam, IE, Chrome and Firefox were showing no connection - I couldn't even connect to my BT home-hub's admin menu's! If I restarted the wireless card (via Disable - Enable device), then I could connect and be back up and running again ... until I logged into vanilla again.

I think the 3rd time I tried to log into Vanilla (after trying a few tests with other online software), it booted me at login, saying the authentication servers were down for maintenance ... but when I checked the MC status page they were working (but got the same error on subsequent login attempts, so gave up!)

Weird!

Confirmed - FTBm crashed at 22:46 UK time. Server still not back online at 23:06.

Here's a screenie of the code in my console before and during the crash (had to screen-shot it as it too had frozen up - i.e. no copy and paste ability).

The Kit wood command worked fine, and all I was doing shortly afterwards was re-arranging ore dust in a chest (using shift+LMB) and then everything crashed.

As far as I'm aware, the only machines running in my area where EnderIO generators.

I think I've crashed monster. Cause of crash seems to be connecting a Fluid pipe (engineer's toolbox) to a fluiduct. Unfortunately I can't break it fast enough now to get back in.

I think I need a map edit to make the chunk safe again. Otherwise I can't play at all and anyone else who gets within loading range will get trapped.

The first restart did succeed, it restarted without the problem pipe so if its possible to restore to that then that'd work, but I made the same mistake again and the second time its coming back up with the pipe already in place so there's nothing I can do.

Vanilla Server Down.

I was playing on it with a couple of other members a couple of hours ago. The last server message I saw was that it was going to restart in 1 hour, but about 10 minutes later we all got kicked. I didn't bother trying to log back in at the time as I had to go do something else. Just come back and can't connect (plus the website says "failed to receive challenge" in the who's online bit).

(its anitanitwin) its seems somon in teh server stuf messed up with the respis, i tested on singelplyer bc roobots before in the server to try and provent sach thnig (bad admin! kiling all the robots with my acunt) the best saloshen to this probelm is to disdroy the programing tybel with other advnce bc tabels (i prefer salvin will do it) or if oyu insts browni resat my acunt but if you do anslit restor my treshery (iron, gold etc....) i am sory guys took me time to understand what is the probelm (i cant gess an admin will mess with teh game recpic or its a problem with the de20 server programing) anyway i am taking full responbulty abut what hapnd and i am sory. p.s i finly mange to remmber my crazy fool acunt user name horay!

It'll take a long time to compress the map, download the map, find the chunk, locate the entity, clear the entity, save the map, upload the map, decompress the map, and merge changes, and test the map. Especially multiple times in a week (2nd map corruption in a week, if this is one)

We'll try just a reboot first, and if not I'll clear the chunk.

We used to be able to do compare-backups but as the CFUK plugin isn't running on that server, we can't.

I'm wondering if we should just go ahead and run the 1.2 upgrade live. Too many glitches causing failures. If there's any corruption after an upgrade to 1.2 then could do a map wipe.
I know it's not an ideal situation but most other server have updated just TE for this reason.

I'm wondering if we should just go ahead and run the 1.2 upgrade live. Too many glitches causing failures. If there's any corruption after an upgrade to 1.2 then could do a map wipe.
I know it's not an ideal situation but most other server have updated just TE for this reason.

Just tried (sorry for the hassle), think i crashed it again on loggin. Only fix for the mentioned problem is update of the mod Thermal Expansion.

ftb just died, likely a mystcraft problem but may be ok with a restart. As draze and I were getting killed by our respective ages at the time could our player files be deleted when you have a min ? that way we can avoid the crash risk of reopening them

just tested all the parts i think i used, and none of them seem to be giving me an issue in sp, so i can only assume a gremlin was the issue in the pipes.

Hey, the server just went down; think it was probably me, I drove a steve's cart over an advanced detector rail (next to a module toggler). All from the same mod so that's what you're supposed to do . . . either way it went down right as the cart touched it : (
As above, if it IS that then a rollback would indeed be preferable

crash most likely caused by "prismatic wand" from aura cascade. Works fine if a little slowly in sp but it was right as I first clicked it's "paste" function that the server crashed

maybe I logged off in or near that chunk last time, if that could be the problem?

maybe a rollback would be an easier and less painful option? Draze, Piggs, Wintershot and my base are all in that area I believe..

Seems like it's not a good idea to change machine in a network of itemducts while stuff is going around. There was a TE retriever on the itemduct too.

DW20 hasn't been online for couple of times I've checked and the timing was so that it couldn't be auto restart. Yesterday (wed) I was able to play on it for a while but now it doesn't show up as online anymore.

Hmm something seems wrong. Seems like it's a newly generated map on DW20? Spawn was different and my house and waypoints were not there where should. Also my char had no gear

Getting "Failed to receive challenge" for both DW20 and Community Choice. I just tried to log in to CC and failed.

Community choice server won't let me on. It reports a connection but I keep getting timed out.

I was on CC about an hour ago. Came back and I can't connect.

Both modded servers show "Failed to receive challenge". Pleased to see it is back up again, thanks.

I'm having silly problems with Vanilla too. Every time I log off and on again my inventory reverts and I'm back by my bed. I lose anything I've picked up. Also on the third try my account unlinked (it was linked), and although I can link it again it will not stay linked.

It seems as if some part of the server has gone read-only?

DW20 seems to have experienced "death by lag", it went from running well to some odd block lag, then timeouts and finally stopped responding. I was only using IC2 construction foam at the time.

Footnote: 1: If using the CF Backpack it is best to use an empty sprayer with it.

The DNS record for the community server doesn't appear to work, though the server seems reachable as "minecraft.crazy-fools.co.uk:24444".

I believe it was a "SRV" record rather than the normal "A" or "CNAME" type.

Community choice appears to be down this morning. I had been levelling ground for a base extension earlier in the week, thought I'd start building but no response...

Also the server map's been broken a while.

UPDATE: 7:44pm there's a server running but it appears to be running with a completely fresh map. Inventory reset and I walked to a waypoint and there's ocean where a village used to be.
