OLD - Gregtech machine upgrade (FTB)

With the newer gregtech version used by the current ftb ultimate pack some machines can use upgrades.
It is added in the item description as "Possible upgrades O T B M"
This guide tries to explain the different upgrades and how to apply them to your machines.

To apply an uprade to a machine just have it in hand and right click the machine. The only feedback you will get is that your upgrade is consumed (the upgrade item disappears).
To check which upgrades a machine has you actually have to break it (electric wrench in lossless mode recommended) and read the item description.
Once an upgrade is applied you cannot remove it.
All machines accept up to 16 upgrades max but most upgrade types stack up to 4 only.

1. O (Overclocker)
makes the machines run faster. Each overclocker upgrade makes the machine run twice as fast but consuming four times the EU. You can apply up to 4 overclockers to one machine.
Make sure to calculate the power requirements beforehand since fully overclocked they'll eat power like hell.
As an example with the industrial centrifuge (basic machine consumes 5 EU/t per each item)

2. T (Transformer)
allows the machine to accept higher tiers of power input. You can apply up to 4 transformer upgrades to one machine. Each upgrade raises the allowed input voltage by 4 times. To use the higher tiers of power (extreme and ultra voltage) you need to use HV transformer upgrades.
Keep in mind that this only affects allowed EU per packet input (voltage). Instead of using transfomer upgrades you can also transform power by using LV/MV/HV transformers. A LV transformer, for example, accepts up to 128 EU/p and will split it up into 4 packets of 32 EU/p. Same ratios for MV and HV transformers.
For a basic 32EU/p machine this results in:

Even if you apply all four (2 transformer + 2 HV transformer) upgrades the item description still reads "Max EU/p: 32" - make sure to read the full item description.

3. B (Battery)
battery upgrade. Increases internal energy store for those machines actually having an internal store - not sure if there are any since most gregtech machines need constant energy supply anyways.
Same basic rules, each upgrade results in storage capacity * 4.

4. M (Minecraft joules)
makes the machine accept MJ aka Buildcraft input for power.
As it converts MJ to EU at a 1:1 ratio this upgrade is strongly disrecommended! You are far better off using an energy bridge which converts MJ to EU at a 2.5 : 1 ratio. It does not make any sense to stack this upgrade.

This will clear a lot of questions up for other players. Thanks for the guide Adren.

FWIW the MJ upgrade probably is still useful when a relatively low energy machine is used near Buildcraft or Thermal expansion machines and its easier to attach it to MJ power and wear the inefficiency.

Time to un-sticky this one now I guess?
