Crazy Fools Olympic Games

, Fri Jan 24 2014, 05:25PM

In spirit of the upcoming 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, I figured that it might not be a bad idea to have an Olympic Games of our own. On CFUK, we have many different nationalities represented, so we would be able to have many competitors representing their country in the games. I have not come up with an official event list, but 1v1 pvp as well as capture the flag are a few that i have already come up with. Also, the location of the Games has not been set, as some of the default players can't tp to a distant location. If you have any suggestions or would like to participate in the Games or the building of the Games, please reply.

Thanks! cheesey

If the event is a set day then staff can be present to help taxi non tp able players to the event area and to make sure nothing goes awry while the event is running.

I'm rather intrigued with this idea muffin.

I feel this is a great idea , ill happily help but i think countries are a little difficult for some (like where there the only person who plays from their country ), maybe if we can make 6 crazy fools related countries and see where we go from there ?

We might be able to split up the entire server based on where people live in it into different countries. Not sure how though...

Desert nomads, Mesa-men, Inland pikies, Highland skirts, Mole men, Atlantians, Swamp witches, forest pixies, Hellspawn, Enders, City rats.

oh and one last one

Staffnuts

I think the staff should compete as their own.

Yes i'm interested in this too Muffin,

I love the idea of hosting a period of in-game contests, with people from in-game countries (as draze said - desert nomads, mesa men, etc)!

We might avoid the slightly overwhelming task of designing and building an all-purpose stadium by joining forces with building projects already underway (spawn flag capture arena, archery range, desert horse racing)?

I hope I don't sound lazy suggesting that! I'm of course happy to help with resources and block-placing with any build. My line of thinking is "it'd be nice to have games at places people are already building for in-game competitions"

Cool!

lol @ Draze tongue

I like the idea, but the only problem is time-zones, as some players are only playing during the morning / lunch time / evening / late at night ... due to what time zone they are in and when they have free time. Could prove tricky to get everyone involved frown

I would suggest you pick a day (preferably a weekend day as that's when most people are off), and then run a series of events in the morning, lunchtime, evening, night and late night. The events would all have to be the same and you'd probably need to get several people (and staff) involved in running it.

Set warps at the start (and end if needed) of each event and then write out a set of rules / guidelines for the staff and who-ever's running the event's for each part of the day (so everyone can compete to the same set of rules). Then for each "event" during the day, the person running it updates a "scores" / "times" thread to show who's achieved what.

e.g. You host a desert horse race in the morning, and time who gets to the finish first, second and third. You then add the times to the forum. The next race is run later in the day and the times are added again, etc. At the end of the day's events, all members who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd are listed in time order, so an overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner can be picked.

For PVP you could do the same with times ... i.e. winner goes through to the next round of each match ... and whoever comes 1st, 2nd and 3rd has their "kill" time divided by the number of rounds they played - giving an average kill time. The person at the end of the day's events with the fastest overall kill time wins (if you get what I mean). The same could be applied to the capture the flag (wool), and so on wink

not a bad idea at all soul. Ok muffin this would need a LOT of planning. If you want to organise the planning and rules etc we (the staff) can help moderate the event when we're online.

If you want to ask for helpers to organise or pass the organisation onto another player/players then thats fine.

When you or whoever else decides to go ahead with the event please create a new post called "CFUK Olympics Event" and also PM broonie with the date and times you have agreed on so he can add it to the events calander.

Discuss with as many players as you can and ask what timezones they are in so you can possibly get a good idea of the best times for events to run.
