FTBM Upgrade

BRooNiE, Sat Mar 22 2014, 06:15PM

Something for you guys to discuss,

Would you rather:

- Wipe the map per upgrade pack, allowing a clean configuration
- Try keep the map per upgrade, which may introduce further bugs/glitches/problems but allow you to keep your builds.

I'll review tomorrow, and look to update FTBM then.

well considering our shared base is currently glitched and what not, a map reset at this junction gets my vote.

but further down the line, provided that the world gen doesn't get overly changed, further resets may not be needed.

Since we are still in "Bug testing" I think a map wipe would be better for now, but if we go out of "Bug testing" the map should be kept.

I'd really like to end up with a permanent map, but at this point i'd say wipe the map as long as it's beta.

I'd like to eventually be able to make one of my crazy big builds and not squirm in panic at the potential loss of pixels i care way too much about =)

A little of both; a map reset at this time would be good as we don't know what world gen items have been changed that many versions in. after that I'd say with it being a "recommended" version perhaps we can do our best to keep it?. The thing I don't like about map resets most is when we lose thaum research and infrastructure; if there was 2 weeks warning and we could fill our inv with our stuff to "keep" then wouldn't mind as much.

As a summary, yes for a reset this time but in future perhaps try and keep map ? Depends how stable this rec version proves to be smile

I think there is a bit of misconception here,

one of the major reasons for resets is due to upgrades on mods, this may mean 100% previous version compatibility may not be in place between upgrades.

Where an item worked fine in version x, may crash the chunk of the map on version y.

Wipe it out.

i'm hoping that FTBM is nearing a stable state and updates no longer require map resets, but if an update that becomes incompatible, then we would need to evaluate if we need/want that update at the cost of a reset.

While i'd love to keep my bases i'd prefer a clean slate. We've had problems with updates etc on FTB packs before. Most things were fixed with the update but certain items would glitch out if they were placed prior to updating the mod.

I'm hoping they've fixed issues like that but at least if we inacted "clean slate protocol" it would reduce the likely hood of mod glitches.

Also as per previous mod experiences it usually settled out after a few updates that also included myst world generations. I think version 1.3 of Ultimate was extremely stable. Could be the same scenario here as well.

Who knows what they've been tinkering with in the background.

Can we reset but keep items we want in the inv to carry over please? Also what is ontained in our backpacks, that way we can atleest keep some of our build?

Inventory carrying over would be great. Would soften the pain of the loss, just a little.

Im hoping to eventually have a permanent map though, the threat of a wipe in the back of my head doesnt do much for my motivation to play =(

No inventory carry overs, as modded items may also glitch over between upgrades and map wipes.

This notice has also been present since FTBM opened,

hmm if we can't carry over even just our ME system and storage drives a regular map wiping policy would suck post-beta.

as it stands now, the wipe policy is fine i think as we can experiment with the new tech and destroy the landscape in the process.

I'd already accepted that the beta map had to go, so do whatever's necessary.

I hope we can stick with one post-beta map though, and not have to reset again.

It would only be until the mods were stable enough to retain the map during updates. If this mod follows suit from the previous FTB mods we're talking maybe around 1-2 major updates over the course of a few months.

It seems the modders are quite on the ball this time.

I've only just got onto FTBm, so havn't really found any bugs yet, and have only built a tiny little shack as a base ... so if we can get a more stable version up and running I'm happy for a map wipe smile ... Just let me blow my hut up first cheesey

Now WHERE did I put my TNT?!? XD
