Nether ceiling rail

As some of you know I have gained access to above the Nether ceiling in vanilla 1.8 and have created a rail for myself to be able to get to spawn and back easily. Currently I can do the trip in just over 1 min for about 3000 blocks of travel in the over world so it is supper convenient, no mobs up there and it is totally flat so makes things real easy.

This is important as we have no warp capability any more until we get mods back which could be quite a while.

I have made holes at my base and above spawn so you can also access and create exits above your own base to allow you to travel back to spawn easily. If you don't know how to make holes using dark oaks then let me know your overworld co-ords and I can make you a hole to use or show you how if you are online.

Ideally I would like to have the spawn portal go direct to the portal just below the nether ceiling to make access to this area quick and easy and to reduce travel time but it would mean removing other portals below it (e.g. discarge's). We could expand the ceiling portal area and make a nether hub and have a quick drop (already made one) onto a slime block that allows you to get down to this area near the fort super quick..

If no one has objections to this i'll go ahead and break the portals.

Regards

I think a nether rail network is a great idea.

It should be possible to have multiple portals at spawn, so long as the nether side portals are manually lined up to be in exactly the matching position to prevent them joining up. If this is too much work, then a quick drop system would be adequate.

I tried with the ceiling portal but your one interferes and everyone go's to your nether side one at the bottom, maybe just slightly to close so if we moved it over slightly it wouldn't interfere and the main one at spawm would then go to the ceiling. The main reason for the nether at spawn is the easy access to the nether fort and the blazes / wither skelly's so maybe make a separate portal to go direct into the fort a bit away from spawn, but you would still be able to do the long drop to get their

Okay nether hub completed, Discharge, I disabled your portal in the nether and the main portal at spawn is now going to the hub, I'm going to make a portal in the fort and try and connect it nicely some how to the spawn area.

Actually there are a number of people who live around spawn that have memorized routes through the nether from the spawn portal to other portals, for fast travel to significant destinations. Perhaps it would have been prudent to wait until people built rails to these places before removing this facility? Did you talk to any of the people who live around spawn first?

I did post this post before I broke anything and I haven't really removed anything, you simply drop down from the top onto a Slime block to where the old portal was, takes a few seconds, probably quicker then running up those stairs, there is no significant difference and the advantage of being able to easily access the nether ceiling direct from spawn seems far more important.

You can now go from spawn to the end in less then a minute. If they don't want to go above the nether ceiling then I made two junction points in the hub for people to dig out from and dig through the top ceiling netherack (fairly safe apart from the odd lava block) to where their other portals are, make a portal at that point and if the the portal below is turned off then the top portal should become active. Much easier then bridging lava lakes and dealing with Gasts.
