Hungry games server

SpinDreams, Wed Jan 07 2015, 08:03PM

Is anyone playing hunger games, I have been on there lots and only seen one person in the whole time I have been there, I have tried to tempt other people to join but no one seems to be willing and those that are have already been killed and can't rejoin, droid I want to own your arse but you're never there, wanna set a time and day?

I think it would be better if people could rejoin (without there stuff obviously) say after a day, this is how they did it on other hunger games servers I have played on. Anyway I am all kitted up and ready to take anyone out so lets get it on!!!!!

Lots of love

My arse is alright thanks lol, I guess that's what I deserve after brutally killing Para :/
We can sort it out on Friday if that's what you want.

I don't like pvp much, thus I won't play on there. Sorry to derive you of that tingly feeling of truimph in your stomach when you kill someone but... just.. no not going. Not for 1000 diamonds

I like the idea of being able to rejoin after a day or so. Instead of the death list we would need a death counter then. in my case, at least wink

It is probably possible to have a limited "ban" time on the Hungry Games server, however, please remember that this is the first attempt at a limited time, "Hunger-games" (or "Battle Royale") server. Therefore, there are bound to be things people don't like, want to change etc.

But hey - that's what the forum is for - so we can discuss it, come up with new ideas, solutions to problems, or other suggestions.

As for the "being allowed back in" idea, I do agree, but think that it depends on the world size, and type of world that is generated. In this situation we decided that a world size of 300 blocks in a Jungle biome would be a good starting point, and we decided that for this run of the server, we would run it as a "once you're dead, you're out". It was decided to run it for 2 weeks to give everyone a chance to play it, and see how those that did got on.

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about there being no-one online at the time when people log in ... personally I'd use that time to gather resources, build traps, or ... well ... I'll leave that upto you to decide (think tactically) wink - Future games may be ruled on kills VS deaths (i.e. 1 point for a kill, -2 points for dying) - so even though you won't gain points from traps killing people, you will reduce their points >:D

This is the first run at a server of this kind - so there may be bugs / issues to fix, or things to include / change about future competition servers ... We're just trying to get the basic format right for now.

Personally, I think the next one should spawn in the Nether! (or perhaps some custom built worlds, if anyone knows a good world making script?)

Survival islands so you can build forts with traps etc tongue

So has anyone died to one of my tnt traps, I know at least one of them has been tripped.

Not that I know of, michael_scott I think starved to death, vedra got killed by Megabananafrog, and Soul_UK got killed by Yoshiko9 and I (I got the final blow apparently).
Soul mentioned that he had seen/triggered a tnt trap but didn't hurt him much.

I'm not bitter or nothing, but to cover the point where I left the game due to connection problems with lava so I died once re-entering is pretty crap way to play this game. Next time Droid come down from your f'ing tower of lava and fight like a man. frown

I found one of your traps spin and triggered it - but ran away far enough to only get a "tickle" off of it tongue

Soul, nice, tnt traps can be very hit or miss but really fun to do, there was a funny thing that at first I thought was a tnt trap but was actually just a warning device consisting of a note block triggered by stone pressure plates in a tunnel, anyway I thought that's no good so I converted it into an actual tnt trap and was hoping the owner would trigger it thinking it was still a note block thing and blow them self up. smile

I think next time I am going to try too develop a massive trap with a web of tnt being set off so there is absolutely no chance of escape. smile

@Freddy, Yeah i did spent about an hour trying to kill him wasting arrows and eventually trying to bridge over to his tower, fell once down to half a heart and in the end I was trying to bridge over again and he said, "sorry gotta go, we'll carry on later" so at that point my connection dropped and I thought oh well ill come back later and try to pick things back up, only to return to my tower now covered in lava.

If I had been quick enough I actually had a notch apple which I think gives you fire prot, and could maybe have saved myself but in the shock of spawning in lava I just panicked, although I did try to put down some water..

I will say droid, you're a crap shot mate, and it was funny I was shooting you through the corner of the wall where you were hiding, I think you were a but shocked by that. smile

Yeah I know I'm a crap shot and not a very good pvper over all, which is why I play unfair sometimes.

I have several designs of TNT traps I've perfected over the years, but they either take a fair bit of TNT to make them "un-escapable" (and blow a HUGE hole in the terrain), or they are just hard to escape from the blast zone (but are very complex to set up in some cases).

I think the most "economic" TNT trap I have built took 9 blocks of TNT and some ... other blocks ... to get an effective trap set up. I'm not going to give out any details - you'll just have to experience them for yourself tongue

Hunger Games server ended today.

Here is the map:

Soul_UK, Tue Jan 20 2015, 06:53PM

That was a good map - the plants kept the bad MOB spawns down, and it was difficult to navigate - even though it was such a small area cheesey

SO NOW IT'S OVER - WHAT DID YOU THINK?

Firstly, thanks again to everyone who played - I'm sure those that did had fun cheesey And well done to Droid225 for winning smile

So, what did you think of the Hungry Games server? (anything that you liked / disliked ... did you have any problems with it ... was the map too big / too small in your opinion ... etc.)

Also, do you have any suggestions for the next one? (map type and / or size ... starting kit ... should there be existing chests ... if once you're dead, you can rejoin after ? hours / days ... should there be buildings ... etc...)

Also, could be an idea to allow "spectator" mod. That way people can record the games for later editing? tongue
