UPDATES

Discharge, Thu Jan 13 2011, 05:05PM

So, there is an update in the process of being launched.

SPOILER WARNING:

So, although the client isn't out yet, I have found out what the new mob is from the source code:

/* 66 */ a(le.class, "Squid", 94);

ITS A SQUID OMAIGOSH!!!!!

Also:

hr N = new m(21, 160).c(3.0F).b(5.0F).a(h).a("oreLapis");
hr O = new hr(22, 144, mh.d).c(3.0F).b(5.0F).a(h).a("blockLapis");
hr P = new lb(23).c(3.5F).a(h).a("dispenser");
hr Q = new dl(24).a(h).c(0.8F).a("sandStone");
hr R = new cj(25).c(0.8F).a("musicBlock");

What on earth is lapis anyway? Dispenser? Sounds cool.

public static hg aU = new ky(95).a(14, 4).a("dyePowder");
public static hg aV = new hg(96).a(12, 1).a("bone").e();
public static hg aW = new hg(97).a(13, 0).a("sugar").e();
public static hg aX = new ml(98, hr.bg).c(1).a(13, 1).a("cake");

Bone eh?

Note: Lapis is the shorthand for lapis lazuli, a blue gem that looks somewhat like sapphire except it has more of an azure hue usually.

EDIT: also even if you give it a DC current the notebox only plays once so the best way to make a fully functional song would be to rig a ton of clock systems in some completely convoluded way. joy.

New crafting recipes added to Minepedia:

- Seems bone is used to make bone meal, which in turn makes white dye.. And bone meal can also be used as a fertilizer for farming. Interesting.

Bone meal makes trees pop up instantly when right clicking a sapling. You can now make charcoal which is I believe just as good as coal. You make charcoal by "cooking" logs in a furnace with coal or wood.

If you want to see the updates in a video to understand how it works, click on this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig6N8iU0b5c . The people who made that also have a minecraft SMP series, which I recommend for people to watch. heres the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UdEFmxRmNE (the series probably won't teach you much about MC, but it is still entertaing)

New breakthrough! After starting a new save file and getting supplies I built a simple proof-of-concept design for a clock-based Player Piano using Note Boxes. IRL a player piano was a pneumatic/mechanical piano which used a big roll of perforated paper or metal to play tunes. The holes corresponded to notes in the actual music thus allowing the piano's mechanisms to pop out sweet tunes, in the case of redstone music, the "rolls" would be a series of clocks and latches and the "holes" would be their intertwined inputs/outputs dictating when a box should activate and when it shouldn't. I would post a vid but it gets incredibly laggy and quickly goes out of sync making my tune sound horrible frown.

I'll set one up on the main map when it's back up and running but I'm slightly worried that it might get even laggier than the redstone dojo with all the wiring that I think I'm gonna have to do to get every possible note... oh well, we'll see >:).

I had a play with some ideas on the server before the update and managed to make a fairly compact and efficient music player thing.

On the most part, you don't need all 24 notes but can make do with 14 or less, since western music is based on scales which have 7 notes in them (+octave shifts).
Maybe I should make a music school....

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you've come up with.
