For the last three days i've been hooked on all the latest versions of RedPower, BuildCraft and IndustrialCraft²
You almost need a degree in Engineering to logically think through the most efficient way of chaining various devices to do all the work for you, but it's that I love about it.
If you consider doing this, DEFINITELY get these mods too, to compliment them:
SMP Friendly Mods:Inventory Tweaks - look it up, once you have it you wont like doing without it
Rei's Minimap - the best minimap out there imo (it beats Zan's hands down!)
Optifine - you folks should know about this by now
For SSP to go with the RP/BC/IC² combination:Somnia - simulates the world while you sleep, so engines, farms, everything continues to work. it's kinda like fast forwarding time. very handy!
treecapitator - with an axe equipped, hitting the bottom block fells the whole tree (as it really should IMO!)
Risugami's Recipe Book - ESSENTIAL for when you have mods... craft a book with ink sack for a book with all the recipes included with your mods.
as all three of the main game changing mods use ModLoader and Forge, you wont get any conflicts or ID issues. in addition it shouldn't mess with SMP either.
I highly suggest you guys give this a try, especially if you suffer times without a connection and need your Minecrack fix.
One thing to watch out for though, the Engines in the Buildcraft mod explode if overworked! that's how i lost 3 days of legitimate building just an hour ago
although i suspect it's a bug when the chunks unload that caused it as i was sure all my engines were cooled and not overloaded (redstone engines were on RedPower Sequencers to pulse them instead of running them ragged)
anyways. best single player fun i've had in months. there's so much to get your head around and work with that you don't get chance to get lonely in game
