I spotted this on facebook from the official Minecraft page. I was initially excited but then read a user's comment about him getting the feeling that Notch just wants to get this over with and is getting sick of Minecraft. That he wants to move on from it.
What you guys think?
I for one, would find it very hard to get sick of something I created as a hobby that made me nearlly 27.5 MILLION POUNDS with zero business overhead!!!
He is building a new game remember, he more focused on his new game obviously, Also Minecraft wasnt meant to get this much attention. I love minecraft, but one day we will move on from Minecraft, but it will remain in our hearts forever.

minecrafft has much room for improvement, so i don't think he will ever forget this game, don't forget that he is not directly involved in the development of the new game (he said that) and he will continue to focus on minecraft. I would really love to see REAL mechanisms included in the game, gears, etc.. As for me this will last another year or more.
He said from now to then Minecraft wouldn't change much, but its really just an excuse to get out of the 'Beta' phrase [and charge more]
We'll see.
pistons= awesome! have you seen the video with the self repairing bridge?
Just a few points, for those that have not followed the Mojang guys on twitter or watched any of Notch's interviews:
Notch has publicly stated that he tends to code as a hobby and rarely ever finishes anything. He also has stated that, when he formed Mojang, one of the goals was to figure out, with the help of his employees, what path to take regarding Minecraft. He said he didn't know if it should just stay in beta forever, constantly getting tweaks, or if there was a "finish line" where a final product would be released, and nothing new would be added, just bug fixes. The biz guys he hired (two of them) have probably talked him into releasing it as a fully finished product at some point. And, 11.11.11 is a nice easy to remember number, I guess. I think this date will come back to haunt them in the end though; it seems far off now, but if they add pistons and track boosters and weather and the other minor stuff he has been talking about, there will be a slew of bugs to fix prior to release. Also, after the final release, this practice of releasing new tweaks often (like every few weeks) will have to stop. Only fully tested patches should be released after that point, as well as not adding any more major changes (new blocks, new physics, etc.)
Also, for those that have mentioned "the other" Mojang game in dev now... Notch is not working on that one at all.... Jakob is. Notch, when he is not being the figurehead of Mojang, is still working on Minecraft, as well as Jeb_ (Jens).
Yes toddy, however I believe Stucuk is referencing the core structure of the game when he refers to his "customers".
By that I mean improving the coding by not having two versions of minecraft, fixing the nether, make a better server program which can use more then one core. Decrease the inefficiency of the game. Add mod support.
It is a lot but I think that is what everyone wants.
In that case, ignore my previous rant xD
Do we have to wait to download it once it comes out?
the new update will have powerd rails .. what do you think they will do ? booster ?
also will we have to pay for the game after it comes out? I bought this in alpha and i didnt have to pay for beta
If Notch keeps true to his word, Alpha members will never have to pay again.
We have the good life. I do believe he changed it for Beta users though? Didn't quite follow that story.
No i bought it in Beta and it said it covered all future versions of the game
at some point between alpha and beta one could purchase gift certificates that would work as alpha accounts, but considered as beta accounts.
Were those codes just for a discounted price?
Gotta be honest, I won't be around.
I've been addicted to Minecraft for the past month (my first) and can't see it abating in the near future. But, during November, the entirety of my gaming time will be taken up by the likes of Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, and Skyrim.
In all honesty, though, can any of you see the final release being dramatically different to the release before it? Majong have been releasing small, incremental updates for some time now, and even if they save something special for the final release, I don't think it'll be a big deal to people like us, who will have been playing it for 10 months prior.
I think releasing it too soon and then adjusting the physics they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. About 75% of the how-to videos on YouTube are already outdated.
