OK, I'm not actually in a bed, but "Tales From a Hospital Room" didn't have quite the same ring to it.
This post is the result of boredom, and I apologise if the staff see this as wasting board space, but I thought I'd share, partly to kill some time, and partly because I know some of the Crazy Fools have met my son (via Teamspeak), and I'm sure those who haven't would love him instantly because of how much concentrated awesome is in his veins. It's worth noting that, as I write this, things are NOT serious, otherwise I wouldn't killing time on a Minecraft forum.
He's sick.
[At the moment] The doctors don't think it's serious. He started to get a fever around Friday, and by Sunday he couldn't sleep through the night and refused to be put down. One trip to hospital resulted in the revelation that... wait for it... he had a fever. When he started shivering Tuesday afternoon and his lips turned blue, we were understandably worried.
So, I ran out of work to meet my better half and awesome son at Bradford Royal Infirmary's Accident and Emergency unit, where, after many unpleasant tests, we were told he had a lung infection.
No problem. It sucks for Tristan, but anti-biotics should cure him. I left Sallie (my other half) with Tristan, went home for some sleep and readied myself for work the following (this) morning, in the understanding that Tristan just needed time for the anti-biotics to do their job.
Only I got an urgent phone call at about 11am telling me that he'd taken a turn for the worse, and now the doctors were running tests for Meningitis! Needless to say, the last eight hours have been hell. Tristan, understandably feeling rubbish all over, has developed a strong fear of everyone he doesn't recognise (as they keep sticking him with needles) and cries his little heart out at the mere sight of a nurse/doctor/porter/cleaner, so we had that to contend with as nurses and doctors were coming around quite regularly to take blood or give him medicine.
Anyway, it's now just before 10pm. A doctor has just been in to tell us that the latest blood results show he has a bacterial infection which has spread to his blood. Which is bad. But it isn't Meningitis. Which is good. Theoretically, we just need to worry about keeping him comfortable and happy while the meds take effect, and I'll hopefully be taking him home Friday.
But, f*ck me was I scared for a while there.
I'm now sat in a hospital chair next to the roll out bed they've brought out for Sallie, who is asleep with Tristan on her chest because he still won't be put down, and typing away on my laptop using free hospital WiFi (I might have even logged onto the server if I'd have thought to bring a mouse).
So, there you have it. Wednesday's suck.
Glad to hear Tristan is going to be fine. I hope he has a speedy recovery so you can come back to us with your crazy red wool abuse and let Tristan talk to us on TeamSpeak (because we prefer Tristan over you!).
Best of luck mate!
Who wouldn't prefer Tristan over me? He's awesome. Typing away in the dark has taught me something; my next laptop needs a backlit keyboard. I'm fine with words, but when I need a symbol or to use a function key, it gets tricky.
You love my red wool abuse!
I'm sorry to hear that, I can't imagine anything worse and here I'am thinking I was having a bad day...
So glad the doctors managed to diagnose and treat him properly.
My thoughts are with you and you family, Take care fella.
Speedy recovery to little Tristan! And to his sleep deprived parents a good nights sleep (or two).
My thoughts are with Tristan, you, and your wife!
Hope he gets better quickly!
Sadly I wasn't there for your son on TS, but I do hope he gets better ASAP.
Thanks for all the kind words. He's snoring away at the side of me at the moment. Temperature's still up, but he's sleeping, which is an improvement. Hopefully he'll keep getting gradually better as the meds work their magic.
I've had about 50 minutes sleep, earning me an impressively painful muscle cramp in my neck, and am now wide awake. It's 2:40 am.
I hope your son gets well soon.
IT'S NOT MENINGITIS!
After my last post, the doctors decided they needed to go ahead and test for meningitis, as the anti-biotics weren't fixing things as quickly as they'd liked. It's definitely not meningitis and, as of a few hours ago, he seems back to his old self (staggering around shouting at things and trying to smash the keys from my laptop) so it's looking good.
Knowing these doctors, they'll prob want to keep him in another night, but I'm hoping he'll be well enough to come home with me tomorrow. The neck ache has already returned, and I don't fancy a THIRD night in this bloody chair.
Glad to hear that he's OK!
Why not go to Ikea, buy a new bed and move in?
yh i just got outta hospital. broke my arm falling off my bike :S
Sounds like a funny kid, good to hear he's doing better. I never did hear him on TS, but maybe soon.
Hope Sallie knows how to do neck massages...
So, we're still in the hospital. I've managed to pin the doctors down to a definite time frame: IF Tristan doesn't get sick again (he's pretty much all better now) we can take him home on Monday, once his course of anti-biotics has finished.
That's not why I'm posting though.
THIS time, when I came to the hospital to spend the night in an uncomfortable chair between my son (inna cot) and my girlfriend (inna bed), I had forethought to bring an external mouse and a set of headphones. So I have a question.
Should I log on and play some MC from my sons hospital room, and would this constitute a "serious problem" of the addiction kind if I did?
Side note: I have the US Open running through Sky Player at the moment, and wouldn't be logging on 'till after Andy Murray's match in any case.
Beagrie, is your son staying in a room, or a hospital ward, which is a room they keep other patents in?
I've had experience in a children's ward, staying the first night improper freaky without ur parents sleeping with u.
His first night was in a ward, but he got moved to his own room when his infection worsened.
So, the update, his fever cleared after a week of pumping him full of anti-biotics, the doctors scared the Griefers out of us by implying he might need an operation on his kidney's at some point, we had a follow up with his main doctor (who is an expert in his kidney thing), and she said there was no signs of a kidney problem.
End result; most likely a random lung infection that he reacted very badly to. He's fine now, we're all home, and I'm trying to find a way to make some time to get on the server this weekend before all the 1.8 map is taken!
