Ok, so I've abandoned the thought of getting a prebuilt computer, but now I need to find good parts for a gaming pc that a relatively small budget (around £300) can afford,
Any suggestions?

Gaming PC's are not just your average computer. They are relatively expensive becuase games and 3D graphics are the most demanding applications you can run. You need lots of memory and processing power whcih dont come under your budget of 300. Your on the hunt for some really generous person if you not willing to pay more.
It's not that I'm not willing to pay more droid, it's that i'm substituting anything I get for christmas for money for parts and t was estimated around 300 I would get
Is it a P.C. or a laptop you have just now?
Upgrade a part a time if you have a P.C.,
300 would get your a half decent AMD processor, a mobo, and a graphics card for starters.
I would start with the parts that upgrade slowly, such as the monitor, case, and power supply and work your way from there...
If you love in the UK, I would recommend cclonline.com for all your computer hardware needs. Extremely cheap.
Don't forget the motherboard guys - a cheap one will limit your ability to expand the system as well as reduce its performance overall.
I'm looking to build my own system and am looking at half-decent motherboards with built-in graphics to give me time to save for a decent graphics card.
I was going to buy a laptop, but then decided a desktop would be better as like Broonie said - at least with a desktop you can upgrade it bit by bit.
