What Flightster said, basically. A new map and a fresh start will be majorly beneficial to us when 1.8 comes out, as most of the current map has already been generated, and thus there will not be any new map changes included in an update.Arouka
Wait, when 1.8 comes around, the spawn is just being set to something else, right? we're not actually losing r builds?

I reckon a very large fortress would be good for the adventure update, keep it as a safe haven and surround it with a moat full of lava to keep the new mob away
The Enderman is a mob that will be introduced in version 1.8; The Adventure Update. The Endermen are depicted as 3 meter tall, black creatures with long arms and legs. They also have the ability to pick up and move blocks around. They are generally peaceful. If you look at them, by placing your crosshair directly over them, they freeze, stare back at you, and become hostile. They stay frozen as long as you keep looking at them. When you look away, they will quickly run towards you; if they are a long distance away, they will teleport several times until close enough to reach you. They will only teleport to somewhere you can see. Endermen can teleport about once per second.

Depends on what kind of blocks the Enderman can move, and to what extent. If he's going to tear down entire constructs then he may just be a problem on a far higher plane. A few of those could then tear down entire cities.
Now if it's specific blocks, then it's easier to avoid using blocks that he is able to move, thus preventing him from being able to come into your base (unless you've had eye contact with him - then he'll just teleport).
Then honestly, the Enderman is going to become statistics, like every other mob. If he can only move natural blocks, then our builds aren't going to be harmed. The first thing I'm going to do when I find an Enderman, is stare at him and let him attack me. Then I'm going to find out how to kill him as quickly as possible, and what loot he drops - if it's good, he needs to be included in mobtraps (which he cannot grief his way out of either ).CmdrZoidberg
From what I read in another article (which I can no longer find, damnit!) the Endermen will only move naturally spawned blocks. Any you place will be unharmed. My comment about the fort not doing much to keep the new mob out was reference to the fact the damn thing can teleport! When 1.8 hits I can tell you I'll never be leaving my house again at night for fear I may run across one of these things.
