The server is running the current full version of the game, which is Beta 1.8.1.

At the time of this post, that was true. The current full version is now 1.0.0, and the server is still running 1.8.1.
when will it be updated to 1.9 or new current?
Most likely when the Bukkit team has updated their plugin to 1.0.0 and when Broonie has time to do so.
Any severe bugs also play a part in whether or not we decide to upgrade.
Bukkits last statement:
"Please stop asking for a date and time for us to finish the update. We do not know! As always, it could be 5 minutes or 10 weeks."
