Recently i've been trying to make a nether gate at my home so as to be able to get into and out of the nether closer to home (for farming purposes), without having any fear of people having a go at me (i'm not one for pvp)
My home gate works fine and just needs some trapping for people that care to break into my mine but if I go out I either end up at an island far to my south or, in case I build my own gate, the blocks melt. (I assume this is a mod measure)
Therefore it is my question whether is is even ok to try have a nether gate at my place? I'd like to be able to farm Magma creams, ghast tears and flame rods without having people randomly stick sharp objects at me.
If it's not ok i'll just have to make due without any netherdwelling I suppose but.. just making sure before I do anything that's less then desirable or waste all my hard-mined obsidian (I could at least use it to make nether chests...)
1000* blocks sorry not 100 mobile device typo :/

I have a place that deposits me in the nether but no return portal spawns if I use it. If I build one it melts xD I got around spawning in mystery cave y buy placing the portal at the end of my mines. But then I can't return without dying ^^;
As for the workarounds, they are nice, but I'd much rather find a blaze spawner and build a farm around it then have to do with 4 every so often (an hour or so? Could get a stack in that time.) Not to mention what might happen if the kits get changed.
It also does not help with the ghast tears, even if I'm terrified of those things...
On a side note: Nether Brick is also a very aesthetically pleasing block =)
it was meant to say mega at the end lol
crappy touch screen phone xD

For what its worth I've tried making return portals on a system that allows it and its VERY easy to accidentally spam portals, quite small displacements on the nether side seem to put it off. In short its a bad idea unless you get the coordinates spot on.
Having said that it ought to be possible to distinguish between portal opening from the nether to existing portals and portals opening to new locations in world
Theres a reason portals melt when you try to create them nether side because if you make one there and it opens in someones house then you could get into trouble for it.

it's pretty simple
1. build an overworld portal, activate, do not use!
2. Write down the coords. For simplicity sake lets say 3578,7578 (leaving height out of the equation)
3. Divide those numbers by 8. Leaving you with 447.25, 947.25
4. round this down! you'll get 447,847 which are the coords you want to build at in the nether.
5.Find another nethergate that existed priorly and go into the nether.
6. find your calculated coörds
7. build portal
8. activate it
9. win!
Too many big numbers, I do enough math in school
maths heh .... q=hugs chista = cautious poots = friendly benny = BENNEH!
Mega
if(Mega == confusing){
attention.pay = false;
mode = javaCode;
system.out.println("Nan... You are completely throwing me off, being able to equate me, q and benny");
}
and that is how you own someone with java.
Anyway back to the matter at hand, tricks or no tricks if it goes wrong and does end up in someones house it will be your head on the chopping block. Not saying straight ban but you could get in trouble for it.
True true.
Even so it's not even possible so no point in fuzzing over it on my end =)
Back to the new matter at hand...
*eyes her roof* Cone or dome... Hmmz...
