When I was looking into creating a library an age ago, I thought about have a 'master copy' of the book, and creating spare copies for people to rent/take. That could be difficlut though, if even possible. I dont know. I guess it all depends on copy/paste functionality with books.

Obsidian Internal Walls? Most people wouldn't bother trying to get through. Granted you would still need to protect the door.
I'll admit I'm not aware of any way. You could have a library submission thread, or get people to PM them to you.
The idea of having a master copy sounds like the way to go. Could always have a vault under the library to store them in.
Master copies are the way to go. But will people mind their names not showing up as the author when you hover over a book in the chests in the library. It will say Bennyfingers but he will ensure the authors names will be written again with the book title on the first page. If people don't mind that I think it shouldn't be too long before the grand opening.
I'll get the fireworks ready then!
Ill write a few when I have time
As for the mastercopies you could ask all submitters to write their books in notepad first so the authors themselfes could easily recreate them. I did that with my books anyway.
If the author doesn't want to / is unreachable you can still recreate the book from your mastercopy. I can help with copying books if needed.
I'll help with book production for reproduction if you'd like, Ive got the spawn eggs to create a sizable cow farm for leather, chicken eggs for featers, and I'll gladly set up a large reed farm to make the paper. The only thing I can't figure out is an easy way to get ink sacs. PM me if you'd like me to set this up.
Hello all, thanks for your suggestions. It's going to work like this:
Submissions will be copied by the library and the copies placed in a secure vault. The originals will go in the chests (I wanted to do it the other way round but I can only sign copies with my name so browsers can't quickly see who has written what).
This way if anything goes missing I can supply a .txt of the book for the original author to remake if they choose.
I think asking people to write in notepad first would be a bit much since the pasting into books is a bit of a pain. I don't want to put anyone off making a book.
Addy - thankyou so much for the offers of help - I am nearly done making copies of books from the old library. In all honesty I am not anticipating a massive influx when the new library opens but should copymaking become overwhelming I'll know where to go for help.
Thanks also Ninjan - Poots has been supplying books and quills and I think we're good unless demand unexpectedly goes nuts! That said, as the library provides free books and quills, we're always going to be grateful for books and quill donations.
Thanks again all for your helpful suggestions - hopefully this time no-ones work will be irretrievably lost!
I just had an idea of using trade-o-mat devices. You have to pay say 1 gold bar to rent the book, and you only get the bar back when you return it. I'm not sure if they can be made to only return the gold when the right book is returned though - otherwise people will just return empty books.
Another alternative is to ask people writing books to provide 2 copies, so you can keep the second secure for making copies as mentioned above
trade-o-mat = tekkit
tekkit =1.2.5
writable books = 1.3
1.2.5 ≠1.3
Could use broo's vending machine code (player pays ten gold or a diamond ,gets book , brings book back and poots or benny give them the ten gold )
Good ideas guys but I want to keep it as simple as possible.
Donators+ (who I think we can reasonably trust) will have access to the library via a warp.
Default players will have to submit a 10-page book to the library which will get them their name on one of the three entrance doors (plus a diamond of course) so they can come and go as they please.
Books are backed up so they can be replaced if the library gets griefed or the sever mysteriously loses the data.
