But may i ask for a sign if a mod has had to take action?

From what I understand, every entity in loaded chunks had to be removed all at once. It would have taken a lot of signs. I myself lost several good horses, all my maps, item frames etc.

Re: Nether ceiling rail (Server Discussion) Posted on 07 Nov : 11:00

The main reason for the nether at spawn is the easy access to the nether fort and the blazes / wither skelly's

SpinDreams

Actually there are a number of people who live around spawn that have memorized routes through the nether from the spawn portal to other portals, for fast travel to significant destinations. Perhaps it would have been prudent to wait until people built rails to these places before removing this facility? Did you talk to any of the people who live around spawn first?
Re: Nether ceiling rail (Server Discussion) Posted on 04 Nov : 11:39
I think a nether rail network is a great idea.

It should be possible to have multiple portals at spawn, so long as the nether side portals are manually lined up to be in exactly the matching position to prevent them joining up. If this is too much work, then a quick drop system would be adequate.

I think this PSU would do then?

Perfect. Good choice.

That looks like a pretty sweet setup. It's exactly the sort of computer I would build myself (and in fact is very similar to the one I have built myself).

One thing that jumps out at me is that your power supply is a bit feeble for the computing power it's supporting. According to this page, the Radeon R9 290 has a recommended minimum power supply of 750W. Various other sites around confirm this. I know partpicker esitmates you're fine (just), but do you want to risk it?
More importantly though, that graphics card requires two additional power connections from your PSU: one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI power connectors. Your chosen power supply does not have both of these. Look carefully at the specifications of the power supply you choose to check for these connections. Follow links to purchasing sites (like CCL and Scan) if need be as these may provide more info. (NB: 8-pin power connectors are sometimes marked as 4+4 connectors)

Your RAM is faster than your motherboard's RAM slots. This isn't a big problem. The RAM will just go at the fastest speed the motherboard will let it. But you might be spending money on the fastest RAM unnecessarily.

Were you planning on using any CD/DVDs? If so, an internal drive might also be a good idea.

Is an operating system on your list of things to buy or do you have something lined up already?

Edit: and one minor little thing before I stop poking holes in your nice pc: your motherboard seems to only have 1 fan connector on it. The manufacturer doesn't state how many but I looked at a picture of it and I could only see one. Your case comes with 2 fans included (with space for more). You can get a molex to fan-plug adaptors, or just not use one fan.

For example, on a 2.7 GHz quad-core CPU, old programs are only using a 0.675GHz processor ... if I'd gone for an eight-core processor, they would only use a speed of 0.3375GHz - marginally faster than my first PC I bought back in 2001!!!

Soul_UK
This is a very common misconception. A 2.7 GHz quad core processor is really just like 4 x 2.7 GHz processors. No trade off at all.
The slight caveat is Intel's hyper-threading. With hyper-threading, your cores can split themselves in half for better multi-tasking/parallelization, at a slight loss of per-thread-speed. However they will only do this if there is benefit to it. They can still operate as a whole core too.

You will therefore usually see two numbers for intel processors: cores and threads. For instance:

Intel i3: usually 2 cores 4 threads.
Intel i5: usually 4 cores 4 threads.
intel i7: usually 4 cores 8 threads.

So if they are all the same rated GHz, the i3 has half the processing power of the i5, but can multitask just as well. The i5 has the same processing power as the i7, but i7 can multitask better.

Sorry to poke a hole in an otherwise good analysis. But the world seemed so much better once I found this out myself smile

But back to computer choosing. If self-building, there are a number of components that need to be compatible with each other. For instance:
  • Motherboard socket type == processor socket type (essential)
  • Motherboard max ram speed >= ram speed
  • Power supply wattage > peak expected power draw (essential)
  • Motherboard number of SATA ports >= required SATA components
  • Motherboard is SATA III (desirable if hard drives etc are)
  • Graphics card connectors compatible with monitor (not essential)
  • Right size case (a bit hard to get this wrong but possible)
  • Power supply has necessary connectors for everything (eg graphics card)
  • Surround-sound capability if you have some fancy audio setup?

I might have forgotten something. I don't want to scare you off: it's a great thing to build your own pc. Just so you know it isn't always mix and match. If you are unsure on compatibility of components, just ask and someone will be able to tell you.

I'd just like to recommend this site as a great place to buy components and stuff. It's always as cheap as you'll find. And they sell pre-built computers basically at the same price you'd pay buying the components yourself.

http://www.cclonline.com/

I buy everything from them. Amazon is also good price-wise.
