If my old one worked properly, I wouldn't have bought a new one! -
I had this one;
But it's faulty, so I bought this one;
But that one needs a phantom power supply, so I also had to buy this;
And now my Friday night is going to involve a lot of playing with shiny new toys. -

I thought phantom power was only really needed for propper studio mics. unless thats what youve got

It is a condenser, yeah. The problem I was having is that the first mic, the C1-U, is supposed to be identical to the C1, but USB. So while the C1 plugs into an XLR port and needs phantom power, the C1-U should, in theory, just plug into a USB port, get its power from the computer directly, and deliver studio quality audio with no more setting up than a normal desktop mic would.
Unfortunately, it behaved like it wasn't getting any phantom power, so the audio was so quiet that I had to boost the signal so far to hear my voice that it picked up a lot of background fuzz, which rather defied the point of having a fancy mic.
To answer your question, Naske, I don't know if any of the others have studio quality mics, but it's not necessary. The only reason I'm spending this much on recording equipment is because I have other projects coming up that need it. -

All that said... I've just set everything up and I can't get an f-ing signal from the mic. If either or both of these faulty in some way, someone at Behringer is going to get an ear full.

Right. It's the mixer. It's packed up and ready for shipping back to Amazon on Monday, and they have refunded me, so it's replacement is now ordered;
Unfortunately, it means I'll be stuck with same old noise-ridden mic for next podcast. -

Recording was about an hour and half. I'm 10 min into editing, I reckon it might end up around 45 minutes.
