Bukkit has been upgraded to the latest build, and Java has been rolled back from 1.7 to 1.6, however we are using the latest build [_25] which has considerable performance improvements.

Action Plan

So I've reconfigured the server, gave it a good ol reboot and re-updated everything, hopefully -this- should improve things.

The crashes experiencing are unknown, Java doesn't want to seem to throw an error so it is a very hard thing to trace.

If crashes continue to happen, our next step is to move over to a temp map to see if there is corrupt data on the map causing issues.

Please note I'm trying everything I have to find the causes, therefore I thank you for your patience.

Server Script Upgraded

The server script will now check (along with the saving and syncing) if the server is alive, if it isn't, it'll restart itself.

The server script will now check (along with the saving and syncing) if the server is alive, if it isn't, it'll restart itself.

So in the case of the server does die, it will fix itself.

In the next version, it will gain self-learning intelligence and take over the world.

Bukkit Stable-ish, Server Stable-ish, Successful-ish!

Rather ish day, from what started out as an attempted upgrade from a Android Mobile Phone has turned into a working, stable, release of 1.5 [yay!

Rather ish day, from what started out as an attempted upgrade from a Android Mobile Phone has turned into a working, stable, release of 1.5 [yay!]

There is still a few bugs here and there to squash out, one of the major ones today you may of noticed was the on-quit lag, horrible stuff.

How did this happen? When a player left the game in other means than clicking 'Disconnect' - such as closing the window, or force closing Minecraft - the server [This part by Notch!] would throw an error, saying the player didn't exist where it thought he/she was, heres how it worked:

Player doesn't exist here, I'll check a neighbouring chunk.
Player doesn't exist here, I'll check a neighbouring chunk.
Player doesn't exist here, I'll check a neighbouring chunk.
Player doesn't exist here, I'll check a neighbouring chunk.

And so on, now when the server gets into a state like that, it dedicates the majority of resources to finding this missing player, who doesn't exist! Until eventually, all loaded chunks are checked, and it will resume as normal.

This is bad, and is the reason why some people were experiencing timeouts or had thought the server had crashed due to so many chunks needing checked. Hopefully though, this should be fixed now!

I haven't actually had a moment to fully try out 1.5, however the weather is highly amusing, how long will it be until the old spawn [accessed using /oldspawn] is covered in snow once more? (Apparently, its built on a snow biome.)

You may of also noticed we have extended our player limit to 50, why you must ask, I seen a rare error, and just had to up the limit. That error you ask? Disconnecting Player - Server is Full!

Thats right, we hit our max! So I have extended the player limit to 50, if we hit that, perhaps their might be a surprise in store...

Speaking of surprises, development on the CFUK plugin has sorta halted, I've had alot of coursework materials to focus on lately, when I have them freed up I should be able to focus on the plugin, and get this eco system done!

Also, I don't think I've posted this on the news before, but it was my birthday last month, I'd like to give a thank-you to all the members who gave their birthday wishes, thank you! I'd like to give a special mention to Diablothe2nd too, just yesterday, a late birthday present was given to me, thank you D2!

Ending on a thankful note, I'd like to give my thanks to the following players for their donations to the server - remember, donations support the server hosting! So not matter how big or little it is, your still helping crazy-fools.co.uk continue to be the community it is:

Also, altgamer was wondering the next time he'd be featured in a news post, here is your moment.

HINT: The whole update process was done through my android phone, silly college block destination ports other than 80.

Bukkit is coming!

Notch has done his patch releases, this is good news, why?

Notch has done his patch releases, this is good news, why?

Bukkit refused to work on updating their mod untill the Minecraft code has stabilised, and the patchwork had finished.

Notch has released two patchfixes today fixing a lot of bugs [including the major crash one hopefully!] so I'll keep an eye on bukkit's progress throughout the day, and will update the server once we have a stable build.

Stay tuned 1.5(_01)'ers!
