Re: DW20 server

I don't know the effect / load on the server, but I reckon a server restart every 6 or 8 hours should keep things running smoothly, without affecting gameplay too much
Since the upgrade to 1.2.1 - I have now been able to log in. I have found 1 bug so far - and that's if you try to right click (anything) whilst holding the red book you get to start with (which has no name), I instantly get crashed out of the game with a fatal error, but can log right back in without any issues.

Piggles - the "Fatal error" I was getting was the message I got on screen after it crashed me out of the server. I can still go back to the server menu and log back in again as the game is still running.

Hmmm - I'm getting crashed out of DW within a minute or two of activity with a "fatal error". I can't see anything obvious in the console, but I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for
Here is my
Console Log
of the entire boot-up form start to finish, up to when it crashed.
I had not long logged in, then had to hid in a rather large Raspberry bush from a creeper. I picked one bunch of berries by right-clicking and then when I right-clicked another bush, it crashed me out.
I'd already set the mipmap level to zero (Options > Video Settings > Mipmap Levels [for those that cont find it] - don't try dragging the bar, just click in the far left of the box and wait for the game to crash for a sec, and then the bar will move).
I've just tried all of Draze's suggestions from his advice in
this post
and I still suffered a fatal error after about 30 seconds of being logged in (all I did was right click a few more berries and then got a fatal error again). Also, the game was VERY laggy for the first 10 seconds, then it started to smooth out until it was "normal" - just before I was kicked again. No-one else was on the server at the time and I was somewhere near the spawn point.

I don't use quartz in my builds at the moment as I haven't had a need to do so. However, I do go to the Nether for glowstone as I do go through a lot of that very quickly when building (either in glowstone blocks or redstone lamps).
To compromise on the kits idea - I would suggest a nether quartz kit of 64 blocks with a reasonable cool-down time (i.e. not too short, but not too long). That way if you want to use a lot, you'll either have to save up kits, or go mining for the extra (but having the kit wll make you less reliant on the Nether).
The same could be said for Glowstone - although I'd make that the same as a TNT kit (something like only 16 blocks with a 10-12 hour cool-down time).
Oh and as for regular resets - I'm sure that can be set up with a script - so no-one has to get off of any seat to do it

I dunno - I have Draze on my Steam account, and it's kinda, weird

Ok - so far most people seem to think a three month reset period would be best.
Anyone else care to vote on this?
And yes, this vote is just for the Vanilla server Nether, not the modded servers

To clarify what I said before, on the vanilla server I was experiencing no lag most of the time, with the occasional lag spike (mostly when people logged in / out, but sometimes just randomly here or there.)
One thing I just thought of is that people have probably forgotten (or don't know of) the old rule for modified servers - please switch off your machines when you are logged out of the game. I seem to remember this being an issue for crashes and lag on some of the modified servers in the past.

I've just had a quick play on the Vanilla Server, and I was getting the occasional bit of block lag. At the time I was the only one on that server, and 4 people were on the DW20 server.
I'm on a completely undeveloped island (and unclaimed until now!)
On another note, I have found that Spruce Doors don't work with Lockette

This Poll is slightly different to the one on the CFUK sidebar, in that I'm giving you a few more options.
There seems to be a varying opinion as to how often the Nether should be reset. So I thought I'd lay out some timescales / options to see what the majority want to do

If we all got work from home jobs, we'd end up like ...
Personally I like my "hands-on" job (though the offshore survival training I'm currently doing is tiring and not fun!)
