Re: It maybe be my quarry (Server Discussion) Posted on 29 Oct : 11:32
It might be coincidence, there's an announcement about water strainers causing server crashes and that's a definite documented bug
Should any liquid but water enter a water strainer through a waterproof pipe, the result will corrupt a singleplayer world or crash a server. The corruption can only be fixed by using a map editor to remove the water strainer or by deleting the Power Converters mod. However if there is more pipe directly opposite the input pipe, the other liquids (oil, lava) will continue through the opposite side
For what its worth I'd advise using a finite power source e.g. an engine requiring fuel or if using energy link use a battery (not a solar panel).

So...back to rails. Anyone know the difference between the minecart boarding rail and train boarding rail? The crafting recipie calls for a redstone repeater, does this mean it lengthens the redstone signal in order to push the whole train?

Seems a little early for a new spawn?

LOL so you're using coal, not charcoal? I know that's the "correct" fuel but it seems in kinda short supply.

I seem to have used up too much of my coal making carbon plates, diamonds etc.

Anyway I'm kind of po'ed with minecraft right now due to trying to help a certain person and losing all my nano-armor when he decided to fall down the geothermal borehole I was showing him. Being a helpful kind of guy I tried to retrieve his stuff which amazingly hadn't fallen into lava. Got jumped by creepers, died and by the time I managed to get back to where I was my dropped stuff had all gone.

I'm probably going to be gathering rubber for a while anyway, crafted my first MV solar array today.

BTW have you found out the way that you can double your iron?

Tekkit, yes I should have said so. Anyway it'll take a while for me to store up enough rails, I haven't got enough diamond yet, and I might do a short test run. Also there's a lot to railcraft, like different types of boarding rails which I can craft but I haven't figured how to use them yet, and I figure with tekkit it should be possible to have properly automated stations.
Thread: Rail tunnel (Minecraft General) Posted on 26 Oct : 17:58
So...I'm thinking of building a tunnel bore machine, and turning it loose to make a nice big rail tunnel, maybe west from spawn to the other island.

Now normally I'd just do stuff but in this case I don't want to unleash a grief-o-matic so I figure its important to pick a line on the map that won't hit anyone's underground lair and needs to be deep enough to go under the sea but not so deep that the access is excessively long.

Also should I try to make it high speed rail? I think I can but it'll mean kitting quite a lot.

Darn I keep forgetting its an older version than the regular server. Oh well with all the extra devices there must be something that would work?

That would be kit s_zipzapzoom I guess?
I'll get that, thanks. It was either that or suspend an uninsulated EHV cable 3 above ground level and see what turns up.

Oops sorry about the edit. Anyway I'm starting to play with RP2 stuff, so I may come up with something. I still think there's mileage in a "leak detector". Maybe use tripwire so the spilled stuff can still fall into lava after tripping the switch?

Yeah I see how that only shifts the problem, but add an overflow tube equipped with a restrictor and detector and I think a machine could be made to shut itself down, provided the overflow chest/container was big enough to hold the machine's output while it ran down.

What I'd expect to happen is that if a chunk unloads, blocking the tube, then the stuff gets diverted via the restrictor through your detector and into a chest. The pulse from the detector triggers a latch, shutting off power to the machine. Obviously the overflow system has to lie entirely within a chunk.

Incidentally do you know a simple method of detecting a container being empty or full? I think the restrictor/detector method above will detect full, but I'm not so sure about detecting empty?
